Waiting for the Night…of The Depeche Mode Concert!

IMG_5080

The week has arrived where I can now count down the days to when I will see Depeche Mode in concert.  I feel like it’s been ages since I saw them live, and that’s only because they had to cancel their San Diego date back in 2009 due to Dave Gahan’s strained throat.  Although the following year meant that I got to meet Alan Wilder (posts here and here), I still longed to see my all time favorite band in concert.  In “preparation” for the concert, I have surrounded myself with everything Depeche Mode.  Delta Machine has only left my car CD player a few times to listen to First Wave on Sirius XM and Cy Curnin’s latest album.  Currently I have Violator playing, and I’m probably going to pop in Black Celebration, Some Great Reward, or a greatest hits album at some point this week.  Even as I type this, the excitement is rising in me, higher and higher.  I’m sure there’s no doubt about my fandom (most of my post titles are either songs or lyrics of Depeche Mode songs).  Still, I’m just going indulge myself a little more until Sunday and put up this gratuitous post about my love for Depeche Mode.  How much do I love the boys from Basildon?  It’s all in the name…of my blog!

I entered a contest on KROQ recently to win tickets for one of their sold out LA shows.  Contestants had to prove their fandom by submitting photos with old ticket stubs, the older the better!  I’m holding a few Depeche Mode ticket stubs from concerts I attended over the years, and below is a close up of the oldest one.  Check out the date:  April 1, 1985.  In the picture above, I’m wearing the shirt I bought at that concert.

  1. I really understand your thrill, because Depeche Mode is one of the best bands ever, and I wish you a fantastic concert! I’ve never experienced them live, but the Black Celebration album was the very first vinyl record I bought, when I got my first turntable in 1986. (I still have a turntable and all my vinyl records.. talking about being old school, haha!) Dominic looks awesome in his outfit! 😉

    1. Thank you Conni! I’m very excited because I’m going with my hubby, who has never seen them before live.

Isn’t Dominic cute? If you ask him, he’ll tell you, “Mama’s favorite band is Depeche Mode!”

      xoxo

  2. Mr Midnight, from the blog of Mr Midnight, Sir Winston and myself, says “Somebody with taste! Yeh, that´s great!” He was so very excited. Mr Midnight loves wearing black and has obviously, had my Depeche Mode influence upon him.
As for me, I´ve been a fan of Depeche Mode since way back in the early 80´s. I can´t remember how often I´ve seen them live but it is ALWAYS an evening to remember (I know, it sounds a bit paradox doesn´t it) :).
I saw them in Stuttgart this year and found the concert even better than when I last saw them.
The three of us wish you a wonderful, memorable evening and buckets full of good wishes.

      1. I bet you are. Mr Midnight asks if you have a favourite songs from the band? I know its very difficult, but Mr Midnight has always been a fan of the song “Waiting for the night”. Personally, I´m quite fond of “Should be higher” and “The sun and the rainfall”. Sir Winstons not so keen on Depeche Mode, him being a Ryuichi Sakamoto fan. 🙂
Have a lot of fun on Sunday.

        1. I have quite a few favorites. Please tell Mr. Midnight that I’ll do a post of my top Depeche Mode songs soon…as a tribute to seeing the concert. “Waiting for the Night” is definitely a great song, and I’m excited to see “Should be Higher” in concert. “The Sun and the Rainfall” is a classic!

          xoxo

  3. I missed their European tour due to financially not being able to justify the cost and it’s the first tour I’ve missed in…well I’ve no idea.

Totally gutted I missed them this time around and I hope you have a great time 😉

    1. Paul! How are you? I missed their last tour, so I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss this one. I’ll recap it next week, and thank you! I’m excited for tonight!

      xoxo

      1. I’m very well thank you, it has been a while since we spoke. I hope you are well.

As I type this I guess you’re there, getting all excited – Oh I wanna cry haha!!!

Have a great time and I look forward to hearing all about it. As you can see I’ve started a new blog and not just one dedicated to gaming!
