As many of you already know by now, I’m a big fan of Miista shoes.  They have a great contest called WHERE’S YOUR MIISTA, and the winner receives free shoes.  You can enter as many times as you wish, just make sure you’re creative.  The competition is quite stiff out there, and there are SO many great pictures!  Here are my humble little additions, which prompted me to get some kind of 80’s music reference in there (yes, I had to include Depeche Mode, too).  That’s right, I’d tumble, somersault, cart-wheel and backflip for Miista!

Here’s how to enter:  WHERE’S YOUR MIISTA?

“To submit your entry: (1) open Instagram (2) search @miistashoes (3) follow @miistashoes (4) upload photo (5a) write awesome caption (5b) tag @miistashoes and #WHERESYOURMIISTA (6) get all your friends to like it, we could possibly be swayed by your popularity — but if you’re TOO popular we might think we need to give it to a needier, less loved follower, gotta find the sweet spot (7) wait patiently and pray every night to the patron saint of statement shoes (From Miista’s blog)”
(Contest ends May 31, 2013)

True Calling: Major Art

I entered this great contest by The Natori Company that I received today in my email.   Click on the picture for the Facebook link to enter the contest (you can also enter on Twitter).  My entry is in the quote below.  Good luck to those who enter!

Major Art

Choosing to have an art major was a difficult decision for me because as the daughter of Filipino immigrant parents, it was expected that I choose a different path, preferably something in the medical field like a nurse or doctor.  But luckily my parents understood that my calling was to choose a path less travelled by my friends and relatives and to choose a major of visual arts.  I’ve always been very creative, both musically and visually, so choosing an art major was natural for me.

As a result, my time in college was one of the most enjoyable experiences in my life.  I was at my most creative, working with film,  video and music (I also became a choir director at my church).  It afforded me some incredible opportunities that I will never forget, like the many shows I got to work on for MTV; working with Toni Braxton on a made for TV movie for VH1 (“Play’d”); and most notably, working with Denzel Washington on a major motion picture (“Antwone Fisher”).

I’m currently in a different career that allows me to have time for a family (which was difficult when I was a free lancer for film and video production), but I do not regret at all the decision to have the chances and opportunities that I did as an art major.

Keep Calm and Carry On Shopping

If you enjoyed the Confessions of a Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella like I did, you’ll be glad to know there is news regarding the series:  She has a new book coming out called Mini Shopaholic.  It’s all about the new adventures of our heroine Rebecca Brandon (formerly Bloomwood) and her 2-year-old daughter, Minnie.  It is due out on shelves on September 2 (UK) and September 21 (US).

I’m not sure what to think, but I saw something else on that site:  A possible movie on the second book called Shopaholic Takes Manhattan (US) or Shopaholic Abroad (UK and elsewhere).  When you click on the link for these books, it says “film tie-in edition” and there is even a cover which has Isla Fisher getting into a taxi.  I checked IMDB.com, and I didn’t see that anything was in production or in post-production, which is thoroughly confusing!  Believe me, I will keep hunting to see if I can dig up anything.  Stay tuned!

In the meantime, if you register to receive newsletters from Sophie Kinsella’s official site, you will be entered into a contest to win one of 10 copies of the Mini Shopaholic book before the official release, which includes a “Keep Calm and Carry On Shopping” bag, signed by Sophie herself!  You can click on the link to Sophie’s official site on my Blogroll, or click on the link below to take you directly to the competitions page on the site.  Winners will be selected at random from different parts of the world accordingly:   3 UK residents, 3 US residents, 2 Canadian residents and 2 rest of the world.

I re-registered to win, too.  Good luck to those that enter (including myself)!
