Them Bones

Since I bought the Rebecca Minkoff East West Skull Tote (post here and seen below), I’ve been adding a few skull & crossbones pieces to my wardrobe.  My cousin Regi even took note and bought me a cute scarf while in New York City a few months ago.  Along with black being a major staple in my closet, skulls and crossbones all are nods to my gothic tendencies.  I’ll bet I find more pieces in London!

  1. Skull bracelet from The Shangri-La at The LAB
  2. Skull sweatshirt from Hot Topic (not available online)
  3. East/West Tote by Rebecca Minkoff (no longer available online)
  4. Scarf, a gift from my cousin Regi (looks Alexander McQueen “inspired”)
  5. One of my favorite pictures of my son; blanket from Marshall’s last year

Rock T-Shirt of the Week: Erasure Tomorrow's World

Here is my first outfit of my feature “Rock T-Shirt of the Week”, which my husband snapped of me while we were on our mini-vacation in last week.  Our hotel was situated in Old Town Irvine, and it was nice to do an outfit post in a different location.  Originally, I had thought about bringing more than one outfit just to shoot around town, but that was not the point of the vacation (our son definitely did not want to wait around while mommy posed in random stairwells).  This just made me all the more excited to take pictures in new places during my London and Paris trip next month with Janice!

Speaking of Janice, this is the t-shirt I bought at the Erasure show she took me to as a surprise Christmas present last year (post here).  This was the third time I had seen Erasure in concert:  the first was when they opened up for Duran Duran and the second was during their tour supporting The Innocents album (both shows were in the 80’s).  I’m usually one to stick to black t-shirts, so this one was a nice departure as it’s grey with bright colors.  I dressed it up a bit with a long stretchy skirt, girly heels and a bright little purse.

Outfit – Erasure t-shirt; H&M skirt; Cotton On sweater; Poetic License shoes; Mini MAC c/o Rebecca Minkoff; Coach sunnies; Wendy Brandes rings

Heavy Metal

Rebecca Minkoff Flowerstud and Double Wrap Zip bracelets

Looks like my love for metal and spikes are definitely on trend this year, which means there is no shortage of my favorite kinds of studded bracelets, shoes, purses and belts available everywhere.  I’ve included items that I already own, mixed in with some that I recently purchased.  I’ll definitely be on the look out for more when I travel to London and Paris in August to add to my heavy metal accessory collection.

Weekend In Pictures: It's All Good When it's Fair Food

For Father’s Day, we went to The San Diego County Fair, where the theme was “Out of This World” and centered around all things science and science fiction.  My husband tried zip lining for the first time, which I got a chance to do just this past weekend (video to come).  Then we all tried our hands at archery, including Dominic!  And of course, the food we indulged in was clearly an experience that could only be described as other worldly.    Hope you had a great weekend!

My hubby, about to zip line (I’ll have a video of the two of us going in an upcoming post)

Dominic learned a little archery.

A triumphant picture of Dominic with one of his many winning prizes.

First stop: Chicken Charlie’s for anything and everything deep-fried.

My boys enjoying a little deep-fried goodness (deep-fried ribs & chicken strips).

My East/West tote was the perfect carry-all for the fair (as seen on Instagram, and thank you to Rebecca Minkoff for the re-Tweet!)

Enjoying a deep-fried peanut butter & jelly sandwich with Wendy Brandes, sort of! (I just love wearing my swear rings everywhere)

Yes, that would be deep-fried Trix cereal!

What was once The Heart Attack Cafe is now Bacon A-Fair, where their relationship with bacon runs deep…and fried!

Beer battered Polish dog & stuffed jalapeno peppers, both wrapped in bacon of course.

Wedged In

Wendy Brandes recently did a “casting call” for bloggers who own wedged sneakers (post here).  I sent her a couple of shots of just my Marc Jacobs wedged espadrille heeled sneakers, but I know she wanted a head-to-toe shot (hopefully she was able to use them).  I love these shoes so much because the heels are just high enough to be comfortable.  Believe it or not, they are show stoppers and I get asked about them every time I wear them.  They are a couple of years old, so I’m not sure if you can get these anywhere (I bought them off of eBay).

Below are a couple of detail shots of my awesome black leather MAC with gunmetal hardware (and a bright blue zipper) and a close up of my shoes from a previous post.

Outfit – Cotton On blazer; Alexander McQueen for Target t-shirt; Guess jeans; Marc Jacobs shoes; Rebecca Minkoff MAC & wrap bracelet; Wendy Brandes swear rings (seen here); Michael Kors watch; Coach sunnies; St. Christopher necklace from The Vatican

Note:  I recently found a pair of wedged sneaks on sale at Urban Outfitters by Ash (AND they are studded).  These are what I’m going to wear for most of my trip to Europe, and if they are comfy enough, I’m wearing them to the Rewind Festival.  Check them out below!

Blue Baby Doll

I know the dress isn’t blue, but title of this post is for my shoes.  These are the cute little pumps that I posted about here.  I intended to wear this outfit to my god-daughter’s 18th birthday party a couple of weeks ago.  But because my mom had a reaction to her antibiotic, we ended up in the hospital most of the day and into the evening of the debut.*  I may bring this little outfit along to London for a night out, which is funny because I put this outfit on for the picture, then took it off to spend a quiet night at home.

Outfit – Forever 21 dress (old); Betsey Johnson shoes from DSW; Rebecca Minkoff MAC purse; Wendy Brandes rings; Michael Kors watch; iSee glasses from GlassesUSA

*(Edited to add that my mom is totally fine.  She was given medication for an infection she didn’t have, so she was taken off the medication and is fully recovered.)

Shades of Grey (or is it Gray)?

Is “gray” or “grey” the correct spelling to describe the color?  I’ve read that “grey” is used primarily in England and many use it to describe a color more close to silver, whereas “gray” is used mainly in the US and is used to describe a color between black and white.  Either way, I see “grey” as referring to “Fifty Shades of Grey” (I’ve read the trilogy), and “gray” is the color of this fabulous skirt I’m wearing.  I guess the spelling of both words can be interchangeable in this case, especially with these spiked heels (and may I note that the color of my polish is Dominatrix).  I think Christian Grey would approve, don’t you?

Rebecca Minkoff West Coast Sample Sale!

If you are a fan of Rebecca Minkoff like I am, the West Coast sample sale will be in full force in both LA and San Francisco this coming weekend.  I won’t be able to go this time due to family obligations, but I will be there in spirit with all my fellow Minkettes.  Have fun and happy shopping!

Return of the MAC!

The gunmetal version of Rebecca Minkoff’s MAC (Morning After Clutch) in black is back, but for a limited time.  I have a grey version of this MAC that I bought at a sample sale at Confederacy in LA, but I have been waiting for the black leather version to come back in stock.  I love it because the gunmetal hardware makes the whole bag look chic and sleek, and the zipper in blue just pops.  I also love the floral print interior.  I’m going to snap mine up before it’s too late.  Once I do, you will definitely see it in upcoming outfit posts because it will be in rotation as my new everyday bag.

PS:  I’m also going to get the East-West Skull Tote, too.   I’ve had my eye on it for awhile, but was finally sold on it when I saw my son napping in my skull throw blanket.

Fully Entrenched

I’ve been reading and referring back quite a bit lately to a book my mother-in-law gave me for Christmas called Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Ines de la Fressange.  I love the section about staples that a Parisian woman has in her wardrobe, and one of them is a trench coat.  I had one before, but I have been longing a more classic one that is actually functional (can be worn in the rain).   The book mentions that Burberry is in the “Hall of Fame” of trench coats, to which I agree wholeheartedly.  But if you’re watching your budget like I am, this London Fog one will fulfill all of your trench coat needs.

Outfit – London Fog trench coat; H&M shirt; Cotton On cardigan (unseen); Old Navy jeans; Gunmetal shoes; Forever 21 necklace; Bloomingdales bracelet; Wendy Brandes ring; Rebecca Minkoff purse; iSee glasses c/o GlassesUSA
