People Are People

People are People Cabi collage 1

It’s always great when friends can turn you onto a new brand, because it opens up your wardrobe to more choices and creates versatility.  Jenna from Lucky Little Mustardseed is one of my favorite local bloggers, who I’m so proud to also call my friend.  She has been wearing Cabi for sometime now, and recently turned me onto them after their recent Cabi Clothing Scoop introducing their Spring 2018 collection at the San Diego Convention Center.

What I love about this jacket is that it is SO retro, and completely lends to my style.  I wore the jacket with all black, including this now sold-out People are People t-shirt.  The shirt is by Christian Siriano in collaboration with Leggo Your Ego.  I first saw it on the runway from his Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, where he ended the show with the outfit below.  Christian was also featured on Depeche Mode’s Facebook “Fan Takeover”:

I incorporated Depeche Mode’s “People Are People” into our Fall 2017 show at NYFW as a symbol of what I stand for as a brand and designer. We placed the song during the finale walk and I think that got the message across rather strongly because it was placed at the end. The message that is: people are people, we should all be celebrated in our own way no matter what age, size or skin color. It wasn’t a political statement that I was trying to make, but rather a statement on human rights. It’s about supporting everyone, which is why I casted a diverse range of women to walk in the show. Everyone deserves to be represented.

As a brand, it’s important to be inclusive because anyone can be a customer. Clothing should be fun and make women feel beautiful in their own skin.

Believe it or not, Christian Siriano also collaborated with Impress Manicure for matching People are People press on nails!  I bought two sets (one to keep and one to wear), and they lasted a little over two weeks.  I love the matte finish and easy application.  Of course, my retro-outfit was rounded off with some 80’s inspired accessories: a robot cross-body purse, a Duran Duran album cover lip palette (I’m wearing the color “Rock-On”), and a cassette tape cell phone case.  Yup, you can take a girl out of the 80’s, but you can’t take the 80’s out of this girl!

New Dress, New Year!

MO Tea OOTD 4

It’s the first week of the New Year, so why not start with an outfit post?  During the Thanksgiving break, my mother-in-law treated me to a fabulous afternoon tea at The Tea Lounge in the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas.  I’ll detail the tea itself in a separate post, but I felt the occasion warranted me to wear this dress from Voodoo Vixen’s latest Fall/Winter 2015 line.  It has a wonderful flocked houndstooth print (one of my favorite prints), with a lovely open collar, giving it a completely retro feel.  Since it’s a bit chilly in Las Vegas, I finally got to use my faux fur tippet, which worked well with this vintage inspired dress.

Guess what?  If you like what you see on Voodoo Vixen’s site, Any Second Now readers can use code any2nd20 to get 20% off your purchase!

I also had to take a picture of my nails because they are my new favorite “go-to” nails in a pinch: I did my nails in under 15 minutes!  They’re the latest by Kiss, and I purchased them the day before at CVS, but you can’t tell that I just glued them on a short time before we headed out the door.  What I really love is that they come in a new shorter length, so they’re pretty and practical.

Vegas Style Vintage

At the Matt Goss Show 11.28.2014

Here are a few shots of what my husband and I wore to Matt Goss’ show at Caesars Palace last week (original post here).  How handsome does Deon look?  We felt the velvet jacket, bow tie and fedora was a must to compliment my lovely little vintage inspired dress.  We’re so glad we chose to do it up right because the venue really called for it.  I believe in the same philosophy as Matt, where it’s impossible to overdress for any event, which is why I wanted to really play the part of what it would be like to go out on a night on the town in old Las Vegas.  Judging by the compliments paid to us by Matt himself after his show, I think we made the right choice!Voodoo Vixen Dress 1

And The Tape Is Your Voice

I think it was love at first sight when I saw this skirt on ModCloth.  It’s called the “Music In Me in Mix Tape” skirt, and I literally said, “I must have that!”  I fell in love with the pattern, and the fact that is has pockets (skirts and dresses with pockets are the best things ever).  I’m glad I bought it when I did because not only was it on sale, it’s now sold out.  Hopefully ModCloth will bring it back somehow because it has quickly become my favorite skirt in my wardrobe, and I know so many would love this skirt.  When I wore it to work, one of my co-workers said, “You definitely should have been born in a different era!”  I admit I styled the skirt for this outfit to be retro, but I can also see this skirt in a more edgier outfit.  But maybe he was talking about the fact that the pattern is cassette tapes, and everyone knows how much I love the 80’s.

The Children of 80’s Teenagers

Bubba and Mama in Joy Division

Growing up in the 80’s, it would be fitting that my sister and I should have our children dress accordingly.  Or, at the very least, wear shirts of our favorite groups from the 80’s.  As if on cue, Dominic decided the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were among his favorite superheroes (just like daddy) and he likes The Best of The Human League (he can find the album on my iPod without assistance).  Dominic can sing nearly all the words to the Royskopp version of “Puppets” and if you ask him, he can tell you mama’s favorite group is Depeche Mode, all of which tickles the soul of my inner 80’s teen.  Who knows, maybe Mei-Lin will like Jem and the Holograms?  I think she’ll stick to Hello Kitty for now.

A little Flash Dance, Mei-Lin’s outfit was courtesy of yours truly (she added the Hello Kitty).  I think I wore the exact same thing in the 80’s!

Of course Dominic has a Depeche Mode shirt. Was there any doubt?

I found that John Cusack shirt at Hot Topic a several years ago, intending to turn it into a pillow.  I’m glad I saved it so that Mei-Lin could rock it!
