Celebrating Galentine’s & Valentine’s at Kendra Scott!

It’s rare that I put up a blog post so soon after an event, but I felt it necessary because today is Valentine’s Day!  Yesterday, I was invited to celebrate Galentine’s Day at Kendra Scott in the Fashion Valley Mall with my fellow San Diego Style Bloggers, co-hosted by Paulina of Lil Bits of Chic and Vanessa of Vanessa Balli.  Of course there was plenty of laughter and bubbly, but we also had the chance to customize some beautiful Kendra Scott jewelry courtesy of their Color Bar.

If you’re looking for a fun last-minute gift for your gal pal or Valentine, the Color Bar is the perfect place to get it!  Either make the selections yourself based on what you know your special someone likes, or have them do it themselves by bringing them there!  Start off with the style of jewelry you want (necklace, rings, earrings or bracelet), then choose the metal and stone to complete that special piece!  It’s easy and there are so many choices.  All of the pieces are under $150 and are so incredibly beautiful!  I chose the Mason necklace and Elton bracelet, both in silver with black stones.

I hope you enjoy the pictures from last night’s event below, and I want to wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day, cheers!

Happify Shares the Science Behind a Happy Relationship

The science behind a happy relationship

Happy Valentine’s Day!  I don’t think I’ve shared this with you all, but I am a Happify Pioneer.  Happify believes there is a science to being happy as a person.  They measure your personal “happiness” through personalized daily activities, where you will learn valuable skills to help you feel more motivated and excited about your future.  According to Happify, if there is a science behind being a happy person, there is also a science behind a happy relationship.  I’ll share a couple of takeaways from this graphic, and you can check it out yourself by clicking the link at the end of this post.

One thing I know my husband I do continually is talk and laugh.  We were friends first, so we talk a lot, several times a day, in fact!  Not a day goes by that we aren’t in some kind of communication with each other, even if it’s just to say hi during lunch or a break.  Then we still have so much to say when we get home, because we just want to share all of the funny, scary, sad or frustrating parts of our day.  A large part of that communication for us is laughing, and one of the things that made me fall in love with my husband is his sense of humor.  There are times where we have belly aching laughs, and those are the absolute best.

Another part of the science behind a happy relationship is to have five positive interactions for every negative one with your partner on a daily basis.  This can be in the form of a compliment, doing something nice for the other person, showing appreciation (no matter how small), or reliving a fun memory.  My husband and I both agree that Valentine’s Day is a time where we do something special for each other, rather than making a huge grand gesture.  So tonight, he’s cooking one of my favorite dishes (shrimp scampi), and I’m going to enjoy it!

Love In Itself

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, and those of us in the San Diego Style Bloggers community are showing how we do up the day.  I saw a segment on Refinery 29 on how Aimee Song (of the blog Song of Style) styled boyfriend jeans (article here).  She paired them with an oxblood colored tuxedo jacket, a simple t-shirt and fantastic heels.  I took note and borrowed her style for something that I would wear for a quiet dinner out with my husband.  I decided to add a bit more shine by layering rhinestone necklaces, but kept my edge with the studded clutch.   Also, I must bring special attention to the beautiful lace-up pumps that I got over the weekend during the first day of the Prabal Gurung for Target collaboration.  I don’t know what it is about shoes, but I fall in love with a new pair a few times a month, and I am completely enmoured with these lovelies.  Hope everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow with their special someone!

Have a Little Heart

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got that lovin’ feeling. Since we all know it’s going to be pretty hectic to try to go out tonight, my husband and I will be spending today with our son at home. But later this week, we’ll be leaving the little one with my mom to go out on a belated Valentine’s Day date. In the meantime, I found a few romantic themed items on Mod Cloth that could inspire me to write a few lines of pretty prose to my handsome hubby. Happy Valentine’s Day!

(PS: Check out this fantastic Valentine dedication from Bella at The Citizen Rosebud to the “agelessness” of fashion.  Thanks Bella!)
