Classic/Copy: Dr. Martens

Classic/Copy

I bought my first Dr. Martens in the early 90’s, when I had a decent paying job and I could afford a pair.  Although I wanted boots, I needed durable shoes for work.  I bought a pair similar to these 1461’s because I worked in construction management at the time, and just needed shoes that I could wear with khaki’s and shorts (our uniform in the field).

Now that I’m headed back to England this summer, I want a pair so badly from The British Boot Company in Camden Town.  I’ve been looking at the originals, but I love the twists on the classics, like the Triumph 1914 pair pictured above.  Although tempted, I vow not to buy a pair until I have the chance to get to the UK.  So in the meantime, I bought a pair by Nature Breeze that will satisfy the rugged look of Dr. Martens that I want (for less) until my travels this summer.  Have a great weekend!

Cupid, You Are Love

You Are Love

With Valentine’s day arriving tomorrow, I was inspired by Rebecca Minkoff’s Cupid satchel (and my new Matiko shoes) to put together a little something for the occasion.  I found this great template on Polyvore called “You Are Love”, which I thought was perfect for a modern, yet romantic theme.  Happy Valentine’s Day!

Crazy for the Kimono

My favorite kimono-style cardigans and tops are featured in the March 2012 issue of People StyleWatch as a “Celeb Trend”!  They love the look for the same reasons that I do: delicate prints, the silky feel and ease of wear.  I’m going to have to take advantage of the new bright colors and prints for spring.  What style has you excited this coming season?

Beware of the Leopard!

I was in that mode again to hunt for that perfect shoe that would satisfy all of my cravings for something new and fresh for my wardrobe.  I’m falling in love with leopard again, and I found the shoe that literally made my heart skip a beat when I saw it.  It’s called Jovanna by Matiko, and I purchased them from a new favorite shoe shopping site called Ashbury Skies (recently launched in 2011, based out of San Francisco).  Immediately I fell for the all-over leopard print and wedged heel.  But what I truly love is that it is asymmetrical, giving it a little bit of edge.  Beware that this leopard will appear in quite a few outfit posts to come.  Have a great weekend!

Stylish & Sensible: GlassesUSA

As you can tell by most of my pictures on this blog, I wear glasses.  I had mixed feelings about wearing glasses when I was younger because I was partly excited to be able to see clearly, but not so excited to actually wear the glasses themselves.  What I discovered after my first horribly lackluster pair is that I should start to think of them as an accessory.  I upgraded my glasses to a pair of very cool burgundy frames and have been choosing prescription glasses over contacts ever since.

In my quest to find fashionable frames, I realized that many of the styles I was looking at cost the same as a high-end purse or pair of shoes.  If I decided to buy glasses at a more affordable price, then I sacrifice the style that I want.  Glasses seemed like more function than form, so I ditched the possibility of getting more than one pair and would just be resigned to the fact that I could only really update the style of my glasses after my regular check ups.

This all changed after I was recently introduced to GlassesUSA.com.   I love the newest pair I have by Lucky Brand that I bought at Costco a few months ago.  But as a fashion/lifestyle blogger, seeing so many fantastic frame styles on other bloggers made me want to coordinate new pairs with different outfits.  GlassesUSA.com has a great selection at incredibly reasonable prices (110% lowest price guarantee), which could definitely make those accessory dreams come true!

Other than checking out all of the great styles, my absolute favorite part of the whole site was the virtual mirror.  I spent literally two nights playing with this great feature.  Rather than upload a picture, I chose to use my web-cam to take a current picture of myself.  I then “tried on” practically every pair they had.  Out of all of the choices, I settled on a great pair by iSee because of it’s retro style.  The order was processed immediately after they received my prescription (sent by email).  My glasses were delivered 5 days later in a handy, slim hard case with a lens cloth.

Here I am in my new specs (and new haircut)!  What do you think?  If you would like a pair (or two, or three) for your own, GlassesUSA.com is offering readers of Any Second Now a couple of discounts, in addition to their fantastic regular offers.  Check them out below and happy shopping!

Jason Wu for Target

I was browsing through a couple of my favorite magazines recently, and found ads for the newest designer to contribute to Target’s  “Go International” series: Jason Wu.  The line hits Target stores on February 5, 2012 and prices range from $19.99 to $59.99.  I must admit that I never paid too much attention to his designs before, but I feel that Jason Wu gained much more attention because he’s one the First Lady’s favorite designers.  These ads really made me sit up and take notice, because of the colors, prints and especially the purses.  What do you think?  Have a great weekend!

(Want more?  They’ve got the whole collection available to view on Fashionista here.  It’s official, I’m in love with this whole line!)

Style Says: Featured Stylist

I was asked recently to be a “Featured Stylist” on a new fashion/shopping site called Style Says.  The premise of the site is to make online shopping more enjoyable by offering a community of shoppers, products and stores.  Users can navigate the site using three areas:  Discovery (new and featured styles of clothing and accessories), Stores (a growing list of stores that they have partnered with), and People (pages of their community of bloggers).

As a “Featured Stylist”, I can then share with users items from outfit posts from my blog that are found in their community of stores.  Sometimes I can share exactly what I bought, or something very similar.  It’s a fun way to share my online shopping finds with readers of Any Second Now.  If users like what they see, they can subscribe to my page and anything I post on Style Says are linked directly to this blog.  Check out my page and the pages of other great bloggers on Style Says, and have a great weekend!

Strike a Pose!

I first heard about this App from Kirsty Elena on Full Time Fabulous, but I recently downloaded it to enter a contest that I read about on Minkette (click here for the post).   It’s called Pose and reminds of Instagram, but it really lends itself to those of us who are fashion bloggers.  What I like is that it allows me to share pictures from my latest outfit posts, take previews of upcoming outfits, and basically quick snaps of outfits that I wear on a daily basis.  I can also tag all of the brands and designers of who I’m wearing that day, then automatically post them to Twitter and Facebook (and Tumblr if you have it)!

One of my poses was featured!

For the Rebecca Minkoff contest, just download the Pose App on your Smartphone, snap your favorite outfit pictures and add #OOTD (outfit of the day) and #Minkette for a chance to win an awesome prize: a beautiful Ostrich Cupid Satchel.  I’m always amenable to adding more RM purses to my collection, so you’ll definitely be seeing more and more poses on Pose!

As a nice surprise, one of the “posers” sent me a quick message to tell me that one of my poses was on Rebecca Minkoff’s Facebook page, sporting what else?  My most recent outfit post with one of my MAC purses of course!  Have a great weekend!

Holiday Gifts for $100 or Less

Holiday Gifts for under $100
Contrary to popular belief, I do not shop that often.  Well, I actually do, but I definitely do not spend as much money on my favorites as people think that I do.  My latest acquisitions have been under the $100 mark, including the most recent pairs of boots that I bought.  Here are items from my favorite brands and sites, with choices for right around $100.  I think these would make great gifts for your favorite fashionista this holiday, and it won’t hurt your pocket!
