Forecast: Sunny, With a Bit of Grayson

Oh, how I love the Jeffrey Campbell “Grayson” boots that my husband bought me for my birthday.  I have been wearing them as often as I can, coming up with outfits just to wear them with.  I decided to do a little boho chic when I went shopping.  I’m going to pair these lovelies with some maxi skirts and dresses, flowy pants and maybe a cropped trouser or two.

Outfit – Decree tunic; Cotton On cardigan; 7 For All Mankind jeans; Jeffrey Campbell shoes; H&M belt; Coach sunglasses; Juicy Couture ring

Second Tournament Win in the Books!

My husband won yet another amateur tourney yesterday (his first tournament win was posted about here)!  He placed first place again in his flight in the The Golf Channel Amateur Tour 4th annual South Bay Championship at the San Diego Country Club.  Here is the fantastic article about his tour improvement and his score.  Great job again honey!

Deon Chen opened some eyes on Monday in the Jones Flight. Chen, who did not break 100 in his first three events on Tour this year in his rookie season, birdied his first two holes and obliterated his competition, firing a most impressive 7-over par 79  win by eleven shots.  Look for Chen to make his way to the Sarazen Flight in the near future with his impressive performance and improvement on Tour!

Weekend in Pictures: Another Day at the Zoo

After my birthday last Sunday, I took a few days off to relax and spend with my family.  These pictures weren’t from this weekend, but the day after my birthday.  We have a yearly membership to the San Diego Zoo and haven’t really taken advantage of it like we should, so going on one of my days off seemed like a great idea for some family fun.  We arrived right after the zoo opened and enjoyed the slightly overcast weather.  When we went during the summer last year, it was hot and slightly uncomfortable.  The weather actually called for sprinkles today, which never came to fruition.  We spent most of our time at The Children’s Zoo, a part that we just didn’t get to the last time around.  This gave Dominic more time to enjoy because he was able to be more interactive with the animals.

Friend Friday: Outside Wants In

This week’s FBFF is about outside influences, asking what else influences fashion bloggers other than just other fashion blogs.  It’s hard to really pinpoint what influences me, but maybe these questions can help hone in that answer.  What are your outside influences when it comes to fashion?

What magazines do you subscribe to?

Lucky, People Style Watch, Vogue

Do you watch any fashion TV shows?

I used to watch Project Runway quite religiously and also the first season of The Fashion Show, but I’ve since lost track.  I’ve also  watched a few episodes of The Rachel Zoe Project.  I guess the two shows that I’ve seen more episodes of would be Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and What Not to Wear (both the British and American versions).

Beyond blogs, what websites do you frequent for fashion inspiration?

I frequent a lot of online stores to get inspiration, mostly British sites like ASOS, Topshop and Plumo.  I like looking at online shoe store’s lookbooks, like those of Sole Struck and Jeffrey Campbell.  Since I frequent those sites to buy their clothing, I look to see what they pair their items with and then draw from my own wardrobe.

When I need an inspirational boost because I’ve got a “fashion/wardrobe block”, I just pop in a few of my favorite “Sex and the City” episodes or movies like “The Devil Wears Prada”, “Confessions of a Shopaholic” & “The September Issue” and I’m instantly inspired.

Advertisements play a huge role in forming public opinion about a product or brand… what ads do you like and why?

Coming from a media background, I’m very critical when it comes to advertisements and commercials.  I like clever ads, that aren’t necessarily humorous, but usually end up being pretty funny.  I really enjoy some of the Geico commercials lately (the “Is the pen really mightier than the sword?” and the “Hey woodchucks, quit chuckin’ my wood!” ones are very funny and clever).

I can’t really think of any magazine ads that are attracting my attention right now.  When I’m flipping through a magazine and see a striking ad, I’ll pay attention for the moment.  Then I move on to the actual content of the magazine.  I must say, that I do enjoy the European ads quite a bit.  When I went to Europe, the ads are just so much more bold, in both words and imagery.

Do you own any fashion books?

I only own a couple of books.  I own an older “Chic Simple” book and a Doc Marten book.  I own more paperback and hard cover novels, poetry books and concert/musical programs than anything else.

Fashion Beauty Friend Friday is a Google group for bloggers to converse on a given topic each week. Katy from ModlyChic sends the questions, bloggers post their responses and then add their post to the list of people sharing their thoughts on the subject matter. To get started, check out this great tutorial on Grit & Glamour here.

Twirly Girly

I felt incredibly girly in my outfit today.  Everything I had on had a little bit of pretty: the sheer polka-dotted dress, cropped jacket with puffy sleeves, crown brooch, and flower accents.  Just like Kathleen Kelly and her mom in “You’ve Got Mail”, I found it appropriate in this moment to twirl!

Outfit – Alice Temperley for Target Dress; Lux jacket; Poetic Licence shoes; Cynthia Rowley purse; Bebe crown brooch; Michael Kors watch; Forever 21 ring; Coach sunglasses

Have Penguin, Will Travel

Dominic is in love with his little penguin that he picked out himself when we recently took him to take pictures with the Easter Bunny at our local mall.  Penguin eats with him, sleeps with him, and goes everywhere with him.  This is a shot after a trip to the mall.  I think the penguin just adds to the whole look. Or is it the sunnies?

Dominic’s outfit – Children’s Place polo; Gap for Kids shorts; Old Navy hat and sunglasses; One Star sneakers

A Little Genie, Sans Bottle

I found these harem pants at H&M.  I already own a few pairs, and although my husband believes that they are true “man-repellers”, I just had to snap these up because of the pretty pattern in a light and breezy color palette and fabric.  This great jacket is from H&M’s “Conscious Collection” and goes remarkably well with these pants (and my watch).  I can’t believe that I haven’t worn these fantastic Tory Burch “Jakey” heels in a pictorial yet (I first posted about them here).  I love the height and the gladiator style.  I’ll also never underestimate the versatility of the plain white tee.  I’m ready for summer, are you?

Outfit – H&M blazer, belt, and pants; Bitten t-shirt; Tory Burch shoes; Michael Kors watch; Coach sunglasses; Juicy Couture ring

Weekend in Pictures: My Birthday & Mother’s Day

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I think this occurrence is going to happen several times in my lifetime: my birthday landing on Mother’s Day. I was actually born on my parent’s second anniversary, which is always right around Mother’s Day. When we were youngsters, this is the time of year that my sister had always felt left out. Now that she’s also a mom and we can all celebrate together, we have just one more person that we are missing, and that’s my father. Although he isn’t here, he will always be present as we fill these days with wonderful new memories of times with my mom, our husbands and our children.  I want to thank her for being supportive and loving, which has made me the mother I am today.

This weekend was very simple and easy, which is a change from the craziness last year: a trip to NYC for my 40th and a brand new Louis Vuitton purse. This year, we started the weekend off with some birthday surprises and wishes at work, a birthday get together for my best friend, Janice (her’s will be on May 10th), and having friends over for the Pacquiao vs Mosley fight (Manny won!). On Mother’s Day/my birthday, I woke up to my favorite breakfast (French Toast and maple sausages) and spent a relaxing day with family.

Happy Birthday blurriness taken at work.

Red velvet cupcake goodness from my friend Sandy.

Birthday present from my husband, the Jeffrey Campbell “Grayson” booties!

More birthday goodies: A Juicy present that I gave to my best friend, Pink sparkling wine and my all time favorite dessert, cheesecake!

Mommy and Dominic: February 27, 2009.

Mommy and Dominic:  May 8, 2011.

And although I myself did not win a Rebecca Minkoff bag through the “Mugly Bag” contest (posted about here), my sister did get featured as one their favorite entries (post here)! My mom has very nice bags, so I thought I’d enter my sister and her oh-so-lovely monkey sling purse instead (recognize the flowers outside of my yard?). Who knew she would get an honorable mention? This definitely made my mother’s day!

Spring into Summer: FTF Blog Event for 5/6/2011

This month’s blog event for Sunglass Hut’s Full Time Fabulous blog by Kristy Elena is centered around spring.  Since it’s getting to be more like summer out here in sunny Southern California, I thought I’d do a transition pictorial of the things I think about when the weather starts to get warmer.  I love pretty floral things, including dresses, hats and shoes (even the tea set is particularly pretty).  I pair them with neutrals, which includes linen colored skirts or shorts and straw purses.  It’s just so nice to wear pretty and light things when the weather permits, which is easy when you live in San Diego.
