Weekend in Pictures: Future Artist, Current Fashionista

Last weekend, we attended the 11th birthday party for Layla, one of my little cousins.  Although I didn’t capture any party pictures (I left that to Layla’s mom and dad), I did capture this fantastic cake.  The icing photo on the cake is Layla’s own drawing of one of her favorite characters from the Japanese anime series called “Naruto”.  Not only is Layla beautiful, a talented singer and artist, but she also shares her mother’s fashion sense (my cousin Janis has always dressed her well).  While the free-hand drawing itself is amazing, what I love is that Layla has incorporated her fondness for fashion in her signature.  I think she’s a Juicy girl for life.  Hope you had a great weekend!

Weekend in Pictures: Images from Easter 2012

The weather has been so very spectacular these few weeks, and Easter last weekend was no exception.  It’s feeling more and more like summer came early to San Diego.  We celebrated Easter with a fun day at the park with extended family.  Dominic and Mei-Lin hauled in overflowing baskets of eggs in the hunt this year.  I didn’t participate myself, but my husband and sister won the water balloon toss, which ended up in a full-fledged water fight.  It was quite refreshing on a hot day.  Hope you had a great weekend!

My sister & My Hubby:  Water balloon toss winners!

Grandkids with Nana (Dominic didn’t want to wear the purple bunny ears, but Mei-Lin didn’t seem to mind wearing the pink ones!)

Happy Birthday to my Sister!

Circa 1975, aren’t we cute?

Just a quick post to say happy birthday to my sister, Rholnna!  She’s always been my musical partner in crime, and if you have been following my blog then you know that I took her to see OMD for her birthday last year (whom we had the pleasure of meeting as well, post can be seen here).  This year, we are planning to see Madness, although it will be next month.  Have a wonderful birthday my dear sister, and to everyone else, have a great weekend!

Empire State Building Blocks

I’m amazed at how artistic my son has become, coordinating colors when using his building blocks.  Dominic can sit for at least an hour when he’s really concentrating on creating something, then will tear it all down again to build anew.  At one point, he was building tower and said, “Mama, look it’s so tall!”  He loves to listen to the music on my iPhone, so I played a song called “Empire State Human” by The Human League because of the lyrics “I want to be tall, tall, tall,” like his awesome tower.  Who knew that he would take my iPhone just to keep playing the song each time he wanted to build something new?  I’m glad my son loves my 80’s music.

Weekend in Pictures: Images From a Birthday Party

Excited about his new bike from Daddy (he got a matching helmet, too!)

Here are a few images from Dominic’s birthday party last month.  It was such a beautiful day at the park, which is unusual for February.  Now that he’s three, he completely understands that this was his party, to celebrate all things about him.  And when you’re that age, isn’t that all that matters?  Hope you had a great weekend!

Playing with his new InnoTab from Grandma (he calls it his iPad).  He takes it everywhere!

Clever Cousins

I love how close my son and niece are.  Even though they bicker every now and again, they are quite the clever cousins!  Whether they’re having a staring contest or just running around together at the playground in the local mall, Mei-Lin and Dominic adorable together.  Hope you had a great weekend!

Dominic’s outfit – Lids hat; Harajuku Mini hoodie; H&M shirt; Guess jeans; Target shoes (unseen)

Mei-Lin’s outfit – Beautees shirt & skirt; Target tights & shoes (shoes unseen); Headband, gift from Nana

Muddy Puddles

Dominic and Mei-Lin watch a show called “Peppa Pig” on Nick Jr.  When it rains, Peppa loves to wear her wellies and jump in muddy puddles.  I bought Dominic his first pair of rain boots not too long ago, and when he saw the big puddles in our driveway and in the street after a recent mild rain storm, he asked me to put my rain boots on so that we could jump in muddy puddles.

Have Boxes, Will Travel

My son has tons of toys everywhere at home (and more have been added since Christmas). It’s a combination of my niece’s hand-me-down toys and brand new ones that they share, or that are distinctly their own. But no matter how many cool toys my son and niece have all around them, I find that it’s their imagination that drives the heart of their play (cardboard boxes make the best planes, trains, cars or boats). Hope you had a great weekend!

Happy Birthday to my Loving Hubby!

Yesterday was my husband’s birthday, and he did exactly what he wanted to all weekend: golf!   Deon dubbed this weekend “The Chen Invitational” and spent the time relaxing with his buddies on the links.  This was perfect timing because my sister, mom and I took the kids to a party on Saturday, and then we had a nice family dinner on Sunday after his second round of golf.  All in all, a nice and easy weekend.  Hope you had a great one, too!
