Leave The BOY Alone!

Leave The BOY Alone
I know I haven’t posted any outfits in a while, so I’m using Polyvore to post something I would definitely wear.  I love BOY LONDON, and just purchased a sweatshirt from ASOS (pictured below).  This brand was iconic in the 80’s and has recently made a resurgence.  I’m not sure why I didn’t buy any BOY LONDON while I was in London this summer, but I’m making up for it now.  Don’t be surprised to see me rocking something similar to this outfit on the blog very soon!

Easter is for the Birds

It’s that time of year for me to embrace prints, and I’m having a love affair with birds.  So for this year’s Easter dress, I chose this pretty number from Lulu*s.  I follow them on Instagram, and I instantly fell in love when this dress was posted a couple of weeks ago.  I love the navy color with the high/low skirt, and the back is so sweetly sexy.  For church, I might have to throw a little cardigan over it, but I’ll shed it just in time for lunch with my family.  Have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Classic/Copy: Dr. Martens

Classic/Copy

I bought my first Dr. Martens in the early 90’s, when I had a decent paying job and I could afford a pair.  Although I wanted boots, I needed durable shoes for work.  I bought a pair similar to these 1461’s because I worked in construction management at the time, and just needed shoes that I could wear with khaki’s and shorts (our uniform in the field).

Now that I’m headed back to England this summer, I want a pair so badly from The British Boot Company in Camden Town.  I’ve been looking at the originals, but I love the twists on the classics, like the Triumph 1914 pair pictured above.  Although tempted, I vow not to buy a pair until I have the chance to get to the UK.  So in the meantime, I bought a pair by Nature Breeze that will satisfy the rugged look of Dr. Martens that I want (for less) until my travels this summer.  Have a great weekend!

Cupid, You Are Love

You Are Love

With Valentine’s day arriving tomorrow, I was inspired by Rebecca Minkoff’s Cupid satchel (and my new Matiko shoes) to put together a little something for the occasion.  I found this great template on Polyvore called “You Are Love”, which I thought was perfect for a modern, yet romantic theme.  Happy Valentine’s Day!

Crazy for the Kimono

My favorite kimono-style cardigans and tops are featured in the March 2012 issue of People StyleWatch as a “Celeb Trend”!  They love the look for the same reasons that I do: delicate prints, the silky feel and ease of wear.  I’m going to have to take advantage of the new bright colors and prints for spring.  What style has you excited this coming season?

From the posts:

Beware of the Leopard!

I was in that mode again to hunt for that perfect shoe that would satisfy all of my cravings for something new and fresh for my wardrobe.  I’m falling in love with leopard again, and I found the shoe that literally made my heart skip a beat when I saw it.  It’s called Jovanna by Matiko, and I purchased them from a new favorite shoe shopping site called Ashbury Skies (recently launched in 2011, based out of San Francisco).  Immediately I fell for the all-over leopard print and wedged heel.  But what I truly love is that it is asymmetrical, giving it a little bit of edge.  Beware that this leopard will appear in quite a few outfit posts to come.  Have a great weekend!

Holiday Gifts for $100 or Less

Holiday Gifts for under $100
Contrary to popular belief, I do not shop that often.  Well, I actually do, but I definitely do not spend as much money on my favorites as people think that I do.  My latest acquisitions have been under the $100 mark, including the most recent pairs of boots that I bought.  Here are items from my favorite brands and sites, with choices for right around $100.  I think these would make great gifts for your favorite fashionista this holiday, and it won’t hurt your pocket!

Black & Velvet

Velvet during the day is something that I’ve been wearing for a while, so I’m embracing the current trend and diving in.  I bought this jacket at H&M 6 years ago in Toronto, long before we had any available in San Diego.  It’s held up so well over the years, and I’ve worn it casual as seen here, and dressed up with shiny skirts and sequined dresses.  Today, I matched with stripes, dark denim leggings, and a nice big patent leather purse.  The weather has officially cooled, so now is the time to take advantage of layering with jewel tones and lush textures.

Outfit:  H&M velvet jacket; Express striped shirt; Miss Selfridge necklace (bought in London); Forever 21 ring; American Rag denim leggings; Mixx booties; Perlina purse

Little Flights of Fancy

I wore my little swallow dress from Cotton On today with these platform sandals because it was unusually warm for November here in San Diego.  But I added little touches that made the outfit more fitting for fall:  a cardigan, a wool hat, and dark tights.  I’m also wearing one of my new cameos, too.  Along with the little bits of tan and brass, the cameo made the outfit feel very vintage, even though the dress was brand new (as of yesterday!).

Outfit:  Cotton On Karoline swallow dress; H&M belt; Urban Outfitters mens cardigan; Pierre Hardy for Gap shoes; Rafe purse; Poppie Jones wool hat; vintage cameo; Target tights; Burberry sunglasses
