Leave The BOY Alone!

Leave The BOY Alone
I know I haven’t posted any outfits in a while, so I’m using Polyvore to post something I would definitely wear.  I love BOY LONDON, and just purchased a sweatshirt from ASOS (pictured below).  This brand was iconic in the 80’s and has recently made a resurgence.  I’m not sure why I didn’t buy any BOY LONDON while I was in London this summer, but I’m making up for it now.  Don’t be surprised to see me rocking something similar to this outfit on the blog very soon!

Classic/Copy: Dr. Martens

Classic/Copy

I bought my first Dr. Martens in the early 90’s, when I had a decent paying job and I could afford a pair.  Although I wanted boots, I needed durable shoes for work.  I bought a pair similar to these 1461’s because I worked in construction management at the time, and just needed shoes that I could wear with khaki’s and shorts (our uniform in the field).

Now that I’m headed back to England this summer, I want a pair so badly from The British Boot Company in Camden Town.  I’ve been looking at the originals, but I love the twists on the classics, like the Triumph 1914 pair pictured above.  Although tempted, I vow not to buy a pair until I have the chance to get to the UK.  So in the meantime, I bought a pair by Nature Breeze that will satisfy the rugged look of Dr. Martens that I want (for less) until my travels this summer.  Have a great weekend!

Cupid, You Are Love

You Are Love

With Valentine’s day arriving tomorrow, I was inspired by Rebecca Minkoff’s Cupid satchel (and my new Matiko shoes) to put together a little something for the occasion.  I found this great template on Polyvore called “You Are Love”, which I thought was perfect for a modern, yet romantic theme.  Happy Valentine’s Day!

Crazy for the Kimono

My favorite kimono-style cardigans and tops are featured in the March 2012 issue of People StyleWatch as a “Celeb Trend”!  They love the look for the same reasons that I do: delicate prints, the silky feel and ease of wear.  I’m going to have to take advantage of the new bright colors and prints for spring.  What style has you excited this coming season?

Holiday Gifts for $100 or Less

Holiday Gifts for under $100
Contrary to popular belief, I do not shop that often.  Well, I actually do, but I definitely do not spend as much money on my favorites as people think that I do.  My latest acquisitions have been under the $100 mark, including the most recent pairs of boots that I bought.  Here are items from my favorite brands and sites, with choices for right around $100.  I think these would make great gifts for your favorite fashionista this holiday, and it won’t hurt your pocket!

Look Cute While Staying Connected

I think it’s the glitter and shine that makes me love Juicy Couture’s new “Powered by Couture” line.   It’s just so much fun, and so useful.  I’m definitely going to get the glitter smart phone cover for my iPhone 3GS, and will probably get that gold case for when I upgrade to the 4S.  Oh, but what I really love is the blue leather gemlock iPad case.  I don’t have an iPad (yet), so I think that it would make for a great clutch until I get one, don’t you?  Happy Monday!

Mode of Inspiration: FTF Blog Event for 8/17/2011

This month’s Full Time Fabulous August blog event is all about inspiration. Kristy Elena asked that we think about what inspires us and explain why. My recurring theme is and will always be Depeche Mode. I connected with their music at a very young age and have always identified with them because of their dark but hopeful lyrics. As I got older, I learned to appreciate the irony of their sexual and religious themes. Their inspiration is evident in the titles of many of my posts, and more importantly in the name of my blog. I can be mentally fighting for a title to an outfit post or an article. Then suddenly a lyric to one of their songs will pop into my head and I’m inspired.  To see evidence of how much they have influenced me, check out posts here and here, including outfit posts here and here.
But really, I derive much of my inspiration for everything I do in my life from the loves of my life: my husband Deon and son Dominic.

Asian Inspired: FTF Blog Event for 6/8/2011

The Full Time Fabulous blog event for June is to create a visual post using one or more of the Spring/Summer 2011 trends as inspiration. Two of my favorite sites, ASOS and Topshop, both have Asian inspired outfits as part of their lookbooks, which is fitting as May was Asian-Pacific month. But what really inspired me was Keiko Lynn’s outfit from a couple of weeks ago called “Puppy Paradise“, where she wore a self-designed floral bed jacket. Each of those looks inspired my visual presentation and outfit, which is themed around the Kimono.

Outfit – Nolita kimono top; Forever 21 tank; Old Navy jeans; Envy wedges

(Bonus picture of Dominic walking into my shot, wearing sunnies!)

Blue Velvet

My recent color obsession is navy blue. Since I bought that navy blue pea coat from Old Navy (seen here), I have been looking at everything ink and indigo. I can’t get enough of the almost-but-not-quite-black depth of the blue, which makes for such an incredibly subtle contrast when worn with black. I ventured so far as to buy blue boots (seen here).

My recent fabric obsessions are velvet and velour. I didn’t even realize it, but I bought four velvet or velour dresses. Velvet and velour can look incredibly cheap when done wrong. But when done right, there is a richness that can be brought out of any color, especially in jewel tones.

I went to Polyvore and made this little set, combining my current obsessions (including Polyvore itself). I own only the Juicy Couture and Mod Cloth dresses, everything else was used to create the set. Although, after seeing some of these other pieces that I picked to make this set, that may change!
