Happy Birthday Mom!

Happy birthday to a wonderful lady, my mum, who turns 70 today.  In commemoration, I’m including a picture of when she was in her twenties as a teacher in the Philippines.  As you can see, being a fashionista runs in the family.  Can you believe her stylish suit was the uniform that teachers wore in the 60’s?  We’ll be celebrating her day with an intimate family dinner.  Thanks mom for everything you are and here’s to your special day.  We love you!

For Those About to Rock (Climb), We Salute You!

Since I didn’t get to enjoy Restaurant Week with my girls last week (they went to a great place called Aloha Sushi and raved about it through texts and comments on Foursquare), I’m posting about an awesome birthday party that my Godson, Max, had last month at a place called Solid Rock Gym out in Downtown San Diego, by Old Town.  It’s a gym with huge rock climbing walls of various levels of difficulty.  I had always seen the signs about this establishment from the freeway, but never really gave it a second thought.  My sister, her husband and even my niece, Mei-Lin, all braved the walls, although Dominic and I were content to just be spectators.  Who knows?  Maybe someday Dominic and I will be brave enough to climb, and bring my husband to try it as well.  Hope you had a great weekend!

A bit too much, right Dominic?

Max, ready to climb!

Waiting for Mei-Lin’s turn.

Look at Mei-Lin go!

Wishing Max a happy birthday!

I’m not climbing, are you?  Maybe next time!

Holiday Images From 2011

Aren’t we just cute on Christmas Eve?

It’s hard to believe that another Christmas and New Year’s has come and gone. Here are just a few pictures of the holidays with my relatives from last month.  All of the really good photos were taken by Kate, my cousin Leonard’s wife.  The rest were from my iPhone.  All of these photos make me smile all over again because they were such great times.  It’s always nice to spend these moments with family, celebrating with food and just plain fun.  Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

My contribution to the Christmas potluck:  homemade cheesecake!

I spy a present for a good little boy!

All the kiddies, excited to get their presents…

Clean-Cut for the New Year

You’ll stay in the know with these mags.

Dominic has been really good lately at sitting still and really listening to the stylist when getting his haircut.  I guess part of it is because he can watch is favorite movies, “Cars” or “Cars 2”.  But I think a lot of it was because this time, he got to sit in their new “ride”:  a truck with flames painted on the side.  I love it when my son gets a haircut because he looks so fresh and clean-cut, although he definitely looks older.  My little boy isn’t looking so little anymore!  It’s always nice to ring in the new year with a neat little trim, which is what I think I’ll be doing before heading out for some fun.  Have a safe and happy new year weekend!

Dominic’s outfit:  Old Navy hat; Roots jacket; Disney “Cars 2” t-shirt; H&M striped shirt (layered); Calvin Klein jeans (handed down from cousin Riley); Lighting McQueen shoes; new Finn McMissile car (gift from Mommy!)

Merry Christmas!

I just wanted to wish you all out there a very Merry Christmas this weekend.  We will be celebrating again with my family locally in San Diego, with the festivities starting on Christmas Eve, ending with ringing in Christmas at midnight with Santa giving gifts to all of the kids, our beautiful boy included (Dominic actually smiled for his annual Santa picture this year).  I hope you have a wonderful, safe and blessed holiday!

Mei-Lin’s Build-A-Bear Birthday Bash

Saturday was my niece, Mei-Lin’s 6th birthday.  She spent her actual birthday at a daytime concert hosted by her favorite group, Big Time Rush, then ended it with dinner with her mommy and daddy.  But on Sunday, she celebrated at Build-A-Bear, partying it up with just a few classmates, friends and family.  We then it ended with an early dinner at my house.  I was the official photographer for the day at Build-A-Bear, so here are some photos of the crazy fun.  If you haven’t guessed already, Mei-Lin’s outfit was completely styled by yours truly.  Hope you also had a great weekend!

Our Thanksgiving Holiday

We’ll help you keep up with fashion with these magazines.

The Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone.  We arrived in Vegas last Wednesday and stayed until Sunday.  It started with Dominic’s first karate lesson from Grandpa and ended with my hubby and I splitting billiard wins at a British pub.  The time in-between was spent laughing and eating with friends and family.  Thanksgiving Day itself always consists of football and food, which is lucky for my husband and I because we love both equally.  My favorite foods that I look forward to each year are the German dumplings, yams with tons of marshmallows, and most recently: my husband’s deep-fried turkey injected with Creole butter.

My mother-in-law and I decided to brave the midnight sales on Black Friday, rather than waiting until the morning.  It was quite crazy at Target and Walmart, so we decided to head out to The Fashion Show Mall, where I discovered Topshop will be opening the first West Coast location in the spring of 2012 (so excited).  I somehow managed to purchase some boots in the midst of the mall madness, and then later scored some awesome sunnies from Mango (the style chosen by my husband).  After the craziness of Friday morning and afternoon, we settled in for my mother-in-law’s birthday.  It’s always the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, so she likes to celebrate it during the holiday because everyone is in town.

On Saturday, I was able to meet up with my best friend, Janice, who was in town for the Janet Jackson concert.  After we grabbed a few drinks at the Paris hotel, my hubby and I were able to spend some couple time by heading to one of his favorite pubs called Crown & Anchor.  He knew I would enjoy it because it’s a British pub where they serve the national fare like fish & chips and bangers & mash, plus they know how to make a good Shandy (recipe to come).  We played a few games of pool, which we surprisingly split (he usually annihilates me).  All in all, it was another chaotic, relaxing, and family-fun-filled Thanksgiving.  Here’s to next year!

Weekend in Pictures: Hey DJ!

I may have mentioned this before, but my husband is a deejay.  Deon mostly spins house, but occasionally he’ll break out some hip-hop.  He did a lot of gigs in Las Vegas before we got married.  When he moved to here to San Diego, he played clubs in the beginning, then was hired to do in store appearances and private parties like weddings and reunions.

When he takes out his equipment, he usually does his full set, which includes his MacBook to mix his digital music with his vinyl.  But one weekend, he decided to hit just the ones and twos in our garage.  My son decided that he wanted to follow suit.  Do we have a future deejay in our presence?  Hope you had a great weekend!

First Time Golfer

One sunny afternoon, my husband decided to take us golfing with him at a local golf course in National City.  Dominic has been to a driving range, but never out on an actual course.  This was the perfect day and the perfect course to take him to because it’s only 9 holes and my husband wasn’t paired up with another golfer or group.  I was not only impressed with how much my husband’s golf game has improved, but with how well-behaved my son could be.  It was quite the relaxing day.  Have a great weekend!

Happy Halloween!

We’ll be tricking and treating tonight with all the ghouls and goblins.  But my Spidey-sense tells me that these two will have the most fun.  They’re going as superheroes, with Dominic as Spiderman and Mei-Lin as Wonder Woman (she’s not in her costume yet, although she is quite wonderful).

Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Halloween!
