I don’t know what it is about the holidays that brings out the girly-girl in me. I’m loving all the sequins and glitter, especially during an evening out. But these are some casual items that can add a touch of sparkle during the day, and some can even take you into the night.
I’m not sure what I’m going to wear them with, but I really love the Toms Pink Glitters!
I was doing a bit of holiday shopping and found some uber-cute party dresses and shoes on Lulus.com. These items are not just fun, but completely affordable. There are tons of styles, but these are the ones that caught my eye for any upcoming party for Christmas or New Years.
As a Duran Duran enthusiast, seeing the name of the first dress on this list made me want to buy it right away. An adorable one-shoulder velvet dress called “A New Religion”? How appropriate!

I did a little bit of shopping, both in person and online in the last week: I used the discount code given to my readers by Lulus.com to pick up a few items before the code expired; my cameos came in from my recent eBay purchase; and I went to my local mall to pick up some really cute affordable dresses from Cotton On. Oh, and I did throw in a pair of shoes (of course!).
I’m gravitating towards easy sweaters and simple dresses in cute patterns (I’m in love with the bird print dress from Cotton On). Keeping things simple will allow me to do the layering that I want, it makes it less bulky under any of the coats and jackets that I’ll be sporting all through the fall and winter, and it will make it easier to accessorize.

It’s a bit cloudy today so I’m just at home with my son while my husband plays golf and my mom takes some time off from babysitting all week. These kinds of days allow me to just play all day with my son, while doing a few chores in-between until the rest of my family ventures home. It also allows me to do a little bit of on-line shopping and perusing through my magazines. I just got my Urban Outfitters and Downeast Basics catalogs, a coupon from Bloomingdales and an email about Bona Drag’s newly updated website. In addition, I still want a few things off of Lulus.com, so there’s plenty for me to look at around the web today.
Here are a few highlights I found, which seems to be heavy on black, white and grey (click on each picture for a link to the item). Hope everyone is having a wonderfully lazy weekend as well!
The weather is so ever-changing that I did start getting out my coats this week. I wore my wellies to work earlier in the day because of the rain, and brought my new booties from Lulus.com to change into at the office (you can still get an exclusive 15% off discount until Oct 29 with this code). The rain lightened up a bit and I was able to get a few pictures in a couple of my favorite pieces: a floral print dress by Alice Temperley and a black wool empire waist swing coat with velvet accents by Erin Fetherston, both from their “Go International” lines for Target.
This jacket is so well made and the heart applique on the back and pockets makes it that much more adorable. I wore it everywhere when I first got it. The empire waist was great for when I was pregnant and went London during the fall two years ago. I only saw it on one other person just this year, when my husband and I were in New York in May. It was the first coat I thought about when the weather started to cool down, and will be a coat I return to time and again.
Outfit: Erin Fetherston for Target wool coat; Alice Temperley for Target floral print dress; Target tights; Mixx Sarah 01 Black Suede High Heel Ankle Boot (seen here in gray)
The Oxfords I bought from Bona Drag by Jeffrey Campbell (seen here and here) got me thinking about things that are two-toned. I’m all about color blocked and striped shirts, sweaters, dresses…you name it! There is something so mod about the two-toned look. Here are some things I found that are fabulously dual spirited, Yin & Yang if you will. But one thing’s for sure, it’s not all just black and white. (Click each picture for a link to the item)
