Simply Red

DSC03266 (2) (1280x1280)

These pictures were taken last November in Las Vegas outside of the famous Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino, at the Fremont Street Experience.  Believe it or not, although my husband was born and raised in Las Vegas, this was the first time he had ever been to the Fremont Street Experience (more pictures to come).  We were able to snap some pictures of my comfy yet pulled together outfit, amidst all of the craziness of the evening.  I’ve always wanted a simple red coat, and I was so excited to have the opportunity to own this one, courtesy of J.Jill from their grand opening at Fashion Valley (post here).

I think seeing Spider-Man (in the mirror above) inspired my boys to strike some hero poses.

This is the News: Sammy Dress for Less

DSC03461 (2) (852x1280)

You know when you get wind of a great deal and you just want to share it with everyone?  That’s how I feel about the global online fashion retail company, Sammy Dress.  When they contacted me to check out their site, I was not only excited about their selection (women, men AND kids clothing, accessories and shoes), but about their prices as well.  I instantly fell in love with this newspaper print handbag, and the reviews seemed pretty favorable.  When it arrived in just 3 weeks (from China), I was really pleased that it was just as adorable in person as it was on their site.  It is big enough to be a small overnight bag, and large enough for a generously sized tote.  In fact, my mom loved it so much that she now wants one for her own!  With their highest price point being under $85 (the purse pictured is only $6.85!) , I’ll definitely be spreading the news about this fabulous retail find!

(Black) Friday, I’m in Love

DSC03240 (2) (1280x960)

I have been waiting to wear this lovely sweater coat I purchased on Etsy earlier this year, and Black Friday was the perfect day to wear it since the weather was sunny but very brisk.  These pictures were taken right after our excursion, and my sole acquisition of the day was that beautiful leather and suede purse from Topshop.  Being married to someone born and raised in Las Vegas allows me to see so many things outside of The Strip.  This is Charlie Frias Park (located on Tropicana Avenue and Decatur Boulevard), which is en route to The Strip, as is seen in the background of the pictures below.  Although we did visit The Strip to go Black Friday shopping at Fashion Show Mall, and to visit my cousin for her husband’s birthday, we primarily stay away from The Strip.  Las Vegas is quite lovely as a city, and I want my pictures on our frequent trips there to showcase what else Sin City has to offer.  My next outfit post and photos of Las Vegas will feature places even my husband never experienced, and it was fun for the entire family!

Just Like Honey

IMG_0199 (2) (854x1280)

It’s unusual for me to start off the week with an outfit post.  But it has been awhile since I’ve put one up (not one included in a fashion post), I thought I’d use one from a couple of weeks back as I’m still putting together my Thanksgiving posts, which was a mix of family, food and fun, with a little bit of fashion thrown in-between.  In the meantime, I wore this outfit to work a few weeks ago, then went to lunch at Denny’s with my sister and niece.  Since I’m on this honey kick, I had to try the Hobbit themed Honey Cake French Toast.  Instead of breakfast style, I had it a-la-mode after my main dish.  When I made the request, the waitress literally stopped writing on her notepad and said, “Oh my GOD, that sounds good!”  I had it again at another late night Denny’s run with my hubby, and the request elicited the same reaction.  I think I may be on to something!

Chequered Past

DSC02290 (2) (851x1280)

This is the outfit I wore for my 25th high school reunion, covered in the previous post.  I fell in love with this Made Fashion Week for Impulse dress when I saw it online on Macy’s site.  I actually bought it in Las Vegas, as I couldn’t find it out here in San Diego.  I immediately got a retro vibe from this dress, reminding me of my checked Vans back in the 80’s.  The faux pan-collar and pockets sealed the deal, and I bought the dress straight away.  I paired it with my fuchsia pumps for a pop of color and my new clear studded vegan purse.

Chequered Past was a group led by Michael Des Barres back in the 80’s.  They toured with Duran Duran during the tour I went to, but I can’t recall if I saw them.  However, The Power Station did tour back in 1985, so I did have the pleasure of seeing Michael Des Barres perform live.

Bows & Dots/Studs & Chains

DSC02028 (2) (853x1280)

I know that doesn’t quite sound like a wedding outfit, but it describes all of the elements in the outfit I wore to my cousin Paul’s wedding a couple of weekends ago (in the previous post).  The top and skirt are separate pieces, which I’ve already worn with other outfits since the wedding.  The cardigan served well as the night got colder, but gave the outfit a retro feel when I draped it on my shoulders.  I love pieces that can easily be incorporated into the rest of my wardrobe, that way I can get more mileage out of them.  It is well documented how much I adore my hardware, but I love softening them by wearing the pieces with a very feminine outfit.

Beat Surrender

DSC01888 (2) (854x1280)

I like to be comfortable when I go to a concert, but I don’t want to surrender my fashionista ways.  I once wore 4 inch heels to see Dave Gahan in concert, and although I loved my look, I ultimately paid the price in pain and inconvenience.  I was in pain because I’m one to stand for the majority of a show and by the fifth song, my feet were done.  Then it was inconvenient because there was a point where everyone rushed the stage during an encore, and trying to run down an incline of stairs in 4 in heels was almost not worth it, except that it was Dave Gahan and that would be the closest I would ever get to him, with or without Depeche Mode!  This is an outfit which would be perfect for me for any concert, from an outdoor festival to a seated event because it’s comfortable, it’s easy, and not fussy.  Although the shoes I’m wearing are heeled, they are wedged and low enough to be comfortable.  And what could be more convenient than a backpack?  I usually hesitate when it comes to backpacks, but this one is cute and functional.  This is definitely my concert bag of choice this summer.  Finally to complete the outfit, I can just play up the accessories, like wearing cool pieces of jewelry or don a hat.  Concert ready?  Why yes I am!

The Power of Customization: eShakti.com

DSC00255 (2) (825x1280)

I am definitely someone who takes garments to a seamstress or tailor to get things to fit correctly, or I will customize something to get it to be the way I want.  So when I was asked by eShakti.com to review a garment, I was excited to see just how it all worked for an online shop.  The premise of the site is to provide affordable clothing that can be purchased in standard sizes, or that can be customized to fit to one’s exact measurements.  When ordering, standard sizing is available from 0 to 36W and they also ask for your height.  For a small fee, if you wish to further customize your order, you can enter all of your measurements to receive a garment that is made to fit only you (and they will save your meausrements for additional and future orders)!  Depending on the type of garment you are ordering, you can also choose sleeve length, sleeve type, and even the length of your skirt or dress.  For instance, if you really like a dress pattern, but you would like a halter top in a shorter length as a casual dress, but maybe you would also enjoy it sleeveless in a longer length for a dressier affair, you can purchase the same dress in two different styles.

The internet allows us to be extremely customer-centric by enabling the buying to be inter-active.

I chose the Asymmetrical Fan Pleat Blazer because of the awesome design and detail.  As soon as I added it to my “Awesome Outfits” board on Pinterest, it was repinned more than anything I have added to date, which means many of you out there agree!  I chose a standard size, but entered my height and customized the sleeve to be a longer length.  It took only two weeks from when I put in my order to when I received this beautiful, lined wool boucle jacket, exactly as it was pictured on the site and it fit perfectly.

DSC00216 (2) (851x1280)

I styled it two ways to show that this jacket is incredibly versatile and can be worn on a night out or for running errands with my son (who decided to join in the picture).  This jacket is one of many fantastic pieces on the eShakti site, including retro flare dresses, skirts, and cardigans.  If you are new to eShakti, your first time registration will also earn you a $25 gift certificate.  I signed up myself, but I’m still deciding which dress I want because there are so many cute things to choose from.  If you love retro styling, tailor made to fit you perfectly at affordable prices, check out eShakti.com!
