What I Wore to Fashion Week San Diego 2016

Earlier this month, I attended a couple of days of Fashion Week San Diego. Because I’m still going through and editing the Saturday runway and Sunday trunk show pictures, I thought I would share the outfits I wore on those days.  For the Saturday runway show, I tapped into my inner-rock star and wore sleek pleather leggings, a sheer trench coat and a Sex Pistols t-shirt with the sleeves cut off, along with my MIISTA “Eva” pumps.  For both days, I carried one of my favorite purses, which is an “oldie but goodie”: the Bodhi safety-pin clutch.  I fell in love with it when Kelly Framel of The Glamourai wore it oh-so-long-ago (my post about it here, and one of her posts here).

For the trunk show, I wore jewelry made by one of my favorite designers of Fashion Week San Diego, Pashn by Survi.  I met Survi at last years FWSD trunk show and purchased the gorgeous pendant and ring, pictured below.  I was so excited to see her expand to clothing and to then chat with her again at the trunk show.  I feel a sense of pride knowing independent designers who I’ve connected with are growing their brand and showcasing their talent!

I also knew I would be walking around at the trunk shows, shopping and meeting all of the talented designers.  While my shorts and shirt felt dressy, wearing flats kept me from having tired feet.  Additionally, I’m so excited that it’s cold enough to wear tights!  I wore these Berkshire Sheer Diamonds tights to really dress up my shorts and to also add some extra texture to my outfit.  They have a control top for extra support, so these tights would not only feel comfortable, but also look great with any skirt.

I’ll be featuring other patterns of Berkshire tights in future posts.  If you like what you see, Berkshire is offering Any Second Now readers a 15% discount on all of their products until 12/16/16 by using blogger15 at check out on their site at eberkshire.com!

Pop!

DSC04168 (2) (1280x1280)While in Palm Springs, I was able to sneak in an outfit post of a very casual summer outfit.  Although it was a little too warm to keep the hat and sweater on all day there in Palm Springs, it was still a great comfy outfit to wear while traveling home to San Diego after a wonderful weekend.  Besides, there’s no point in covering up such an awesome t-shirt, right?  The combination of my cute little tee and fantastic clutch (which converts to a cross-body with an add-on strap) made everything…pop!

What's In Your Purse?

whats in my bag (2)

I’ve always wanted to do a post about what’s in my bag, so I was excited when the folks at Credit Card Insider approached me and a few other bloggers to join their “What’s In Your Purse?” campaign.  It’s always a fun topic, and I decided to show a more “grab and go” version of what’s in my purse.  I attended an event recently and I needed to carry something smaller than my tote bag because I was already carrying my vintage camera bag.  I always carry a simple zip top clutch purse in my larger tote, so that I can throw all of my essentials in it and go.  From my iPhone and going clockwise, here’s what I consider “The Essentials”.  What’s in YOUR purse?  Let me know in the comments below, and have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

  1. Purse:  Rebecca Minkoff Jody A-Z Clutch
  2. iPhone (disguised as a cassette tape)
  3. Wallet (also disguised as an 80’s mixtape…sense a theme?)
  4. Change purse (from London, of course)
  5. Keys (Lego Chewbaca and Good Cop/Bad Cop are my son’s influence)
  6. Business cards
  7. Lip balm
  8. Liquid eyeliner (by e.l.f.)
  9. Eyebrow kit (which has a mirror, by e.l.f.)
  10. Rollerball perfume (Couture La La by Juicy Couture)
  11. Eyebrow pencil (Rimmel)
  12. Lipstick (Arrest Me Copper! by Wet n Wild)
  13. Face blotting paper (by e.l.f.)
  14. Camera (Sony Cybershot)
  15. Tissues (Pockets by Kleenex)
  16. Pen (Fine tip Sharpie)
  17. Portable charger (don’t leave home without it!)

This is the News: Sammy Dress for Less

DSC03461 (2) (852x1280)

You know when you get wind of a great deal and you just want to share it with everyone?  That’s how I feel about the global online fashion retail company, Sammy Dress.  When they contacted me to check out their site, I was not only excited about their selection (women, men AND kids clothing, accessories and shoes), but about their prices as well.  I instantly fell in love with this newspaper print handbag, and the reviews seemed pretty favorable.  When it arrived in just 3 weeks (from China), I was really pleased that it was just as adorable in person as it was on their site.  It is big enough to be a small overnight bag, and large enough for a generously sized tote.  In fact, my mom loved it so much that she now wants one for her own!  With their highest price point being under $85 (the purse pictured is only $6.85!) , I’ll definitely be spreading the news about this fabulous retail find!

Happy shopping!

Clutch Performance

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always liked clutch purses.  While I truly appreciate that one evening clutch that brings that special added touch to your outfit (my all time favorites are designed by Judith Leiber, of which I have 2 vintage ones), I also like that clutches are the perfect “grab and go” purse.  Last year, I found a Coach clutch/wristlet that can go from day to night in an instant (see featured image).   A nice plus about clutch purses is that you can find some that are small enough to fit in your main bag, so you can take it out in case you want to leave the larger purse at coat check or in the car.  They fit just the essentials, whatever that may be for you.  I tend to put money, my driver’s license, a check card or credit card (depending on the size, my whole wallet if it will fit), an elastic hair band, lipstick, compact and eyeliner in any of my cute little clutches (did you think I only had one?).

Grab and go never looked so good!

Neiman Marcus’ Last Call has yet another sale!  Check the flier for more details.

Girlie Stuff

I’m typing from my kitchen eating chocolate covered bacon (my sister picked it up for me at the San Diego Fair…so healthy!), “Olivia” from Nick Jr. is playing in the background as my son and niece are arguing because he “spit on me”.  My son loves to terrorize my girlie little niece.

Speaking of things girlie, here are a couple of things that I like right now: one is 2 years “vintage” and the other I bought about a month ago when I went to see SATC2.

So I went to SATC2 (Sex and the City 2 for the novices) with my cousin and my best friend.  We made a day of it: Spa, lunch, shopping, the movie, dinner and drinks.  We all got prettied up for the day, so I bought these shoes to complete my outfit.  They are much more comfortable than they appear, and they do look great on.  Such a great color for the summer.

Corlette wedges from Aldo

My other favorite thing right now is something I found in my purse.  I’ve had it for about 2 years, and I bought it from her store in Las Vegas.  It’s from Anya Hindmarch and it’s a perfect little wallet/mini clutch purse.  It’s a very light metallic gold leather, and anytime I take it out, I get compliments galore.

Girlie Stuff purse by Anya Hindmarch

We are off to Las Vegas tomorrow for the 4th of July weekend.  On Saturday, my husband and I are going to Mesquite for a “mini-break”.  Dominic will stay with the grandparents.  I’m getting a spa treatment and pedicure (thank you honey!) while he plays golf during the day.  Then we’ll relax at night with drinks and dinner along with a stay at a hotel before heading back to his parents for 4th of July (we can buy fireworks in Nevada, so we plan to shoot off our own again).

I hope to do a little shopping at the Fashion Outlet at Primm Valley on the way back home on Monday (they have the only Burberry outlet in the West Coast).  If I know my husband, we’ll also be making a stop at Jimmy Johns and Capriotti’s for sandwiches (we were SO sad when we discovered that Capriotti’s was no longer in San Diego).

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful Independence Day weekend!
