Eye to Eye

A quick little outfit post of what I wore to the recent San Diego Style Bloggers Beauty Blogger Workshop at Bellus Academy in Poway (my post will be up soon, but check out the awesome recap on the SDSB blog here).  I kept my outfit simple so that my favorite pieces would stand out: the shirt, the bracelet and the purse.  Everything else was in the color scheme of dark grey and nude as a base for those pieces I wanted to highlight.

The shirt I’m wearing is from Wardrobe Ritual, designed by Ashley Wright, who’s brand I discovered on Instagram.  She takes upcycled and vintage clothing and adds an artistic edge to them, making each garment a piece of wearable art (this is one of two shirts I have from her line).  My new Kate Spade glasses bangle has shown up again because I can’t get enough of it.  But my newest vintage acquisition is the fab vintage Céline clutch purse (which I got on eBay in fantastic condition).  I also put in a close up of my awesome nude heels because I got them for a fantastic price at Marshall’s.

This Orchid's Turned to Black

DSC05094 (2) (851x1280)

It’s been awhile since I’ve done an outfit post!  I wanted to end this week with one, because it will lead well into several catch up posts of fab fashion events I’ve attended recently.  My company has just approved casual dress at work, which is nice because I can really experiment with my wardrobe, mixing up the extremely casual with my regular office wear.  So this “dressy sweatshirt” trend will fall nicely into all of my upcoming wardrobe plans.  It’s the easiest to elevate up with fab shoes and a sparkly purse, then dress it down a bit with jeans and great sneakers.  This orchid sweatshirt by Altuzarra for Target is one of my favorites, especially paired with the ankle boots from the same line.  Other than my deep adoration for the Furla Candy Bag I recently won from Duty Free City, I am completely obsessed with lip products from Lime Crime makeup.  I’ve already bought the Velvetine matte lipstains in “Salem”, “Wicked” and “Red Velvet” (not pictured below), and one of the Unicorn lipsticks in “Coquette”.  Of all of the lip products I’ve tried in the past, Lime Crime’s lipsticks and lipstains give me the best and longest lasting coverage ever.  Have a great weekend, cheers!

Pop!

DSC04168 (2) (1280x1280)While in Palm Springs, I was able to sneak in an outfit post of a very casual summer outfit.  Although it was a little too warm to keep the hat and sweater on all day there in Palm Springs, it was still a great comfy outfit to wear while traveling home to San Diego after a wonderful weekend.  Besides, there’s no point in covering up such an awesome t-shirt, right?  The combination of my cute little tee and fantastic clutch (which converts to a cross-body with an add-on strap) made everything…pop!

Between The Black & White

DSC03809 (2) (853x1280)

I’m a big fan of anything with a vintage feel, and I guess I was inspired by The Great Gatsby when I put this outfit together.  Although my hat is really a simple beanie, the large crochet flower just reminds me girls in flapper dresses and my shoes are a nod to gentleman wearing spats.  I kept my outfit from feeling too much like a costume by wearing jeans and keeping the colors limited to black and white with accents of silver.

Our Dapper Little Gentleman

For Dominic’s picture with the Easter Bunny this year, I decided to style him in a newsie style, right down to the bow tie.  I love that my son is up for anything when I dress him, but I guess it’s because he’s only five and wholeheartedly trusts me as his mother.  My hope is that when he’s older, he can look back at these pictures and can appreciate that I was just trying to ensure he had an incredibly fun, yet stylish childhood.

Have a wonderful Easter weekend and happy Record Store Day Eve!

Hot Sticky Sweet

When I’m off work and on casual Fridays, a concert t-shirt, jeans and a comfy pair of shoes are my uniform, especially when they’re as striking as these fantastic pair of red moccasins (to match my nail polish, of course).  I wore this outfit on the last day in our old office as we packed up to move to our new building (just this past Monday).  The weather right now in San Diego has been quite warm, but the mornings and evenings still remind us all that it’s not quite spring yet.  In those times, a light jacket and snuggly beanie will do.  I love this Def Leppard long-sleeved t-shirt because it’s great for days like this, but then I could also throw it over a tank top and shorts when it’s nice and sunny all day long.  I actually saw Def Leppard back in 2002 at a Jingle Ball, not back in the 80’s.  Back then as a die-hard Depeche Mode fan, I dare not say that I even remotely liked “Pour Some Sugar on Me”, let alone admit that I actually bought the single (yup, that’s my 7 inch below).  I’m quite at ease with my musical self that I can readily admit now I really have always been a fan.  So much so that I’ve included the video below for your enjoyment.

"Kendra's Vegas Night Out" Style Challenge: Queen of Spades

Queen of Spades

I’m always up for a good challenge, especially when it tests my fashion chops.  Imagine my excitement when I was asked by travel expert Kendra Thornton to participate in a style challenge to provide a look for her upcoming trip to Las Vegas!  She has asked that we assemble our looks for her, with our own personal style and creativity.  I’ve included her plans for the evening below to show where my inspiration came from for her night on the town in Las Vegas.

Kendra wanted a look that could go from a lovely dinner and show, to a night dancing at the Moon Nightclub at the Palms.  I picked the Aster dress by Erin Fetherston because it’s short, sassy and has swing for dancing, but still looks quite sophisticated and dressy.  The navy color of the dress pairs well with the black accessories for an overall chic look.  I love purses and shoes that stand out, so I adore the details of the story book clutch and bow accented shoes.  I titled my style board “Queen of Spades” partly due to the obvious Vegas theme, but also because all of my accessory choices are from Kate Spade.  That scalloped pave ring looks like a little crown, no?

I hope Kendra likes my style board, and I hope she has a fabulous time in Las Vegas!

Kendra’s Vegas-themed Fashion Challenge

In a few weeks, I’ll be heading to the Palms Casino and Resort in Vegas for a weekend getaway with a group of friends. But as a mother of three, I’m in need of some fashion advice! Too much of my current clothing screams “busy mom.” That’s where you come in! I’m looking for help putting together outfit ideas that will complement my weekend full of activities. I want to look stylish, a little flirty, but still age-appropriate. Your challenge is to help me come of with a wardrobe I can wear for my getaway in Vegas.

While I’m at the Palms Casino & Resort, I’ll definitely be hitting up Moon Nightclub — one of Vegas’ hottest dance parties. The club is a giant spectacle of lights and music, where some of the best-known Vegas celebrities come to see and be seen. I’ll be certain to spend some time of the dance floor, but I might also relax at a private booth with a group of my friends. It will be a chance to debut my best dance moves, but I’ll also have the opportunity to relax and kick back with my friends if we decide that watching the party is more our scene.

The perfect outfit for my trip to Vegas will be able to reflect my plans at the Palms, and will ensure that I look my best hanging out at such a luxurious and well-known resort. It needs to be suitable for a night on the dance floor, but also be appropriate for heading out to a nice dinner or a show at one of the Strip’s luxurious hotels. Help me to look and feel my best by putting together the perfect outfit for my night of fun. Being a mom of three doesn’t mean I can’t look great and enjoy a unforgettable trip to Vegas with my friends.

Insider Event at Madewell UTC

IMG_1425 (2) (960x1280)

Last week, the folks at Madewell UTC invited me to have a little Insider Event with a few of my friends to view their new spring looks.  Bianca of The Inbetween Girls and Laura of Laura Neuzeth joined me for a fun evening of shopping.  I was especially excited about the wonderful new tees that I saw because they’re simple yet chic.  Thankfully, this Insider Event provided me with my last haul before my Catholic service of giving up shopping for Lent.  So I’ll be “shopping” in my closet and doing quite of bit of re-mixing until Easter.  It’s a nice challenge because I want to feel inspired without having to constantly buy something new (although I will admit that it is fun).   Thank you Lauryn and Joseph at Madewell UTC for setting up the event, and special thanks to Ashley and Courtney for showing Bianca, Laura and me a great time that evening!

The tee I was going to get, but…

IMG_1422 (2) (960x1280)

I decided on the following: the linen Paris stencil muscle tee (which runs big, I’m wearing a small) and the Tête-à-Tête tee (seen below in medium, but I could not locate it online).  I also purchased the Inlet Cardigan in Colorblock (at the time was on sale for $49.50), Skinny Skinny jeans in cream (on sale for $24), and the Braided Geochain Bracelet in true black (not pictured).

Afterwards, we all had coffee together before Bianca had to leave.  Then Laura and I bought more macarons to take home from Lette Macarons La Jolla (their kiosk is pictured below) because we loved them at the event.  Now, I’m completely addicted to their macarons, especially the Salted Caramel ones.

There’s a saying I saw somewhere that somewhat goes “When a woman says she can’t decide what to wear, she really means she can’t decide who to be that day.”  Well, this past weekend, I decided to be everything.  I wore this while running errands with my husband and son, and I completely felt like this was a combination of dressy, yet casual and edgy.  Wearing flats with a plain white t-shirt and long skirt felt comfortable, so I put on a classic black cardigan with shiny silver accessories to bring a dressier edge.

So I Creep

IMG_0931 2 (1279x1280)

I’ve always wanted to own a proper pair of creepers.  For me, they’re just so reminiscent of Duckie Dale from Pretty in Pink (“I remain now, and will always be, a Duckman”).  When I was a teen in the 80’s, creepers were a bit out of reach on a minimum wage budget.  Then I sort of forgot about them in the 90’s and early 2000’s.  With my 80’s nostalgia in very high gear lately, imagine my luck when I found a pair of classic black suede ones by T.U.K. on sale at Hot Topic.  I knew the perfect outfit to wear with them, blending a couple of 80’s trends, wearing a bright neon shirt with a checked headband and badges.  I wore this outfit to the office for a little bit of a dress down Friday, and also for my mom’s surprise birthday party.  It’s quite the casual, yet put together outfit.
