Weekend in Pictures: Anniversary Get Away To Palm Springs

IMG_2771 - Copy (1280x1280)

A couple of weekends ago, my hubby and I had a lovely little get away to Palm Springs.  The first time we went as a family was back in 2011 (post here).  This time it was to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary.  We didn’t have a set plan on what to do or where to go, other than Deon’s scheduled tee time (of course).  If you’re wondering, I slept in while he played, then hit Downtown for a little shopping.  We winged it the entire weekend and simply aimed for relaxation.  The result was one of the best little mini-breaks we have had in a long time, filled with good food, good shopping (we even found a record store), and of course alone time with the love of my life.  Could anything be better?

My hubby’s first time eating escargot at Lulu California Bistro.  I’ve had it before, so I knew what to expect.  I think the jury is still out for Deon on the whole edible snail thing!

Our final breakfast in Palm Spring was at Rick’s Restaurant (and across the street is Rick’s Desert Grill).  Forgot to take pictures because we were getting ready to hit the road!

Meet Me at the Corner of 9th & Elm!

9th and Elm Site (1013x881)

I was recently introduced to a great site called 9th & Elm (Handmade, independent, or otherwise cool™”).  If you are a regular reader of Any Second Now, you know I’m in full support of anything and everything independent and local, so 9th & Elm is right up my alley!  The founders of 9th & Elm, Clay and Elly Bethune, started their site back in 2013, wanting to provide their members with fashionable clothing and accessories that they have curated from some of the best handmade and independent designers.

I spent many an hour marveling through the fantastically fashionable items on 9th & Elm, and found three items that I fell in love with (all pictured below).  I can’t wait to share with you the fun outfit posts for each of the items, which I will post up in the next few weeks.  Since the weekend is coming up and July 4th is just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to shop handmade and independent on 9th & Elm!

I love this Stripe Chiffon Dress because it can be dressed up or down.  It looks great with sandals, as well as heels and a blazer!

Images From the Grand Opening of Madewell at The Forum Carlsbad

Madewell Carlsbad Collage 2

This past Wednesday, my husband and I attended the grand opening party of the new Madewell at The Forum Carlsbad.  As you know from previous posts, I started a love affair with Madewell last year (posts here and here), so I just had to visit this new location.  Note:  I thought I knew every mall in San Diego, but I have never been to The Forum Carlsbad until that night!  I also saw a familiar face: Lauryn, who worked at the UTC location, is now the stylist at the Carlsbad one.  I want to thank Lauryn, Scott and Amanda for making me feel well taken care of, even though they were very busy that evening!  I’m definitely going back to The Forum Carlsbad to explore it a little more, and of course to do more shopping at Madewell.  Have a great weekend!

AllSaints Coming to Fashion Valley Mall!

DSC03618 - Copy (800x534)

In addition to Topshop in Nordstrom, I was excited to find out recently that another British favorite is coming to Fashion Valley:  AllSaints!  Here are all of the details this fantastic new addition to Fashion Valley, and I’ll be sure to keep you posted on all the new stores popping up, as there are more to come in the near future!

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (March 20, 2014) – San Diego’s fashionistas have even more options to help spruce up their wardrobes with a new selection of retailers slated to call Fashion Valley home.

“As the premier retail and lifestyle destination in San Diego, both for local shoppers and visitors from around the world, we’re thrilled to welcome all of these fresh new retailers, including the first standalone AllSaints store in San Diego and Orange County,” said Chris Lane, director of marketing and business development at Fashion Valley.

British fashion house AllSaints, a newcomer to the San Diego market, will be the first in the series to set up shop. The store is slated to open March 28 in a 5,200 square-foot space on Fashion Valley’s lower level next to Michael Kors, near Macy’s.

The store will carry a range of the brand’s iconic British collection as well as technology aimed at enhancing the shopping experience and embracing digital innovation.

Founded in London in 1994, the Spitalfields headquartered AllSaints began as a menswear brand and quickly moved into the womenswear space. Known for its edgy and attitudinal clothing, AllSaints aims for creating fresh, innovative design, encompassing an ideology of reinventing the traditional standard. The cult cool brand has earned a reputation as the destination for vintage inspired design. AllSaints is a global brand with 107 stores in eight different countries.

About AllSaints

The British fashion house AllSaints was founded in London in 1994, with the aim of creating fresh, innovative design, encompassing an ideology of reinventing the traditional standard. After the success of their menswear collection, the brand moved into womenswear; still created with the same design-led commitment to high quality yet attitudinal clothing. The brand’s metropolitan location remains a key influence, proving to be an ever-evolving, creatively inspiring hub.  In 2005, AllSaints’ head offices were relocated to the Spitalfields neighborhood of London, an area famed for its historic links to the fashion industry, and this artistically dynamic community is still home to the AllSaints HQ today.  As the brand grows, so does its digital and online presence. AllSaints increasingly operates as a digital brand, creating music, film and art content available to view online at www.allsaints.com.  In 2013 the brand launched its own film production company, AllSaints Film. A further extension of their contribution to visual culture; AllSaints’ creative projects are a testament to their brand values of creative disruption, innovation, independence and individuality.

Insider Event at Madewell UTC

DSC03601 (2) (1280x960)

IMG_1425 (2) (960x1280)

Last week, the folks at Madewell UTC invited me to have a little Insider Event with a few of my friends to view their new spring looks.  Bianca of The Inbetween Girls and Laura of Laura Neuzeth joined me for a fun evening of shopping.  I was especially excited about the wonderful new tees that I saw because they’re simple yet chic.  Thankfully, this Insider Event provided me with my last haul before my Catholic service of giving up shopping for Lent.  So I’ll be “shopping” in my closet and doing quite of bit of re-mixing until Easter.  It’s a nice challenge because I want to feel inspired without having to constantly buy something new (although I will admit that it is fun).   Thank you Lauryn and Joseph at Madewell UTC for setting up the event, and special thanks to Ashley and Courtney for showing Bianca, Laura and me a great time that evening!

The tee I was going to get, but…

IMG_1422 (2) (960x1280)

I decided on the following: the linen Paris stencil muscle tee (which runs big, I’m wearing a small) and the Tête-à-Tête tee (seen below in medium, but I could not locate it online).  I also purchased the Inlet Cardigan in Colorblock (at the time was on sale for $49.50), Skinny Skinny jeans in cream (on sale for $24), and the Braided Geochain Bracelet in true black (not pictured).

Afterwards, we all had coffee together before Bianca had to leave.  Then Laura and I bought more macarons to take home from Lette Macarons La Jolla (their kiosk is pictured below) because we loved them at the event.  Now, I’m completely addicted to their macarons, especially the Salted Caramel ones.

This is the News: Sammy Dress for Less

DSC03461 (2) (852x1280)

You know when you get wind of a great deal and you just want to share it with everyone?  That’s how I feel about the global online fashion retail company, Sammy Dress.  When they contacted me to check out their site, I was not only excited about their selection (women, men AND kids clothing, accessories and shoes), but about their prices as well.  I instantly fell in love with this newspaper print handbag, and the reviews seemed pretty favorable.  When it arrived in just 3 weeks (from China), I was really pleased that it was just as adorable in person as it was on their site.  It is big enough to be a small overnight bag, and large enough for a generously sized tote.  In fact, my mom loved it so much that she now wants one for her own!  With their highest price point being under $85 (the purse pictured is only $6.85!) , I’ll definitely be spreading the news about this fabulous retail find!

Fashion Blogger Day at Flower Hill Promenade

Flower Hill Sign (1280x1280)

This post is just the first of a flurry of events I have attended in the last couple of weeks, which means I’ll be posting something everyday this week!  This event was a couple of weeks ago, and was at Flower Hill Promenade in Del Mar.  We pass this mall whenever we take a trip to Los Angeles, or whenever we go to the San Diego County Fair.  I’ve been to this mall a couple of times in the past, but never ventured deeper than a restaurant or the movie theater, and I haven’t been there since their renovations (for instance, that movie theatre is now a Whole Foods).  When an invite was posted on the San Diego Style Bloggers blog to check out their newest boutiques called “The Row”, I jumped at the chance to see what’s new.

Our day began with delicious drinks and starters, courtesy of Sea & Smoke.  There, we met up with Heidi and Lauren of J Public Relations and a couple of ladies with Flower Hill Promenade.  We had a tartine with cheese, spinach, and figs, and a lovely selection of meats, cheeses and nuts.  The drinks were a citrus spritzer, along with my staple of coffee.  All of it was perfect, light and delicious.

The Lexington Cardi by Street Chic.  Outfit post to come!

Of the five bloggers present, I hung out with Bianca of The In Between Girls, and a new addition to the San Diego Style Bloggers network, Abigail of The Fabulous Life of a Natural Disaster.  When we were given our itineraries, the three of us immediately wanted to go to the same place first:  Vixen Pop Up Boutique!  We were greeted by owner Vanessa Johnson, who gifted us with cute little friendship bracelets made by a local surfer.  The space is quite large and full of fashionable items from clothing, to accessories, to home goods.  We also got to meet Alison Choi, founder and owner of Street Chic, who had some real estate in Vixen, stocked with her fabulous clothing and jewelry, in addition to some curated items.  I bought the Lexington Cardi, pictured above.
