Shades of Grey (or is it Gray)?

Is “gray” or “grey” the correct spelling to describe the color?  I’ve read that “grey” is used primarily in England and many use it to describe a color more close to silver, whereas “gray” is used mainly in the US and is used to describe a color between black and white.  Either way, I see “grey” as referring to “Fifty Shades of Grey” (I’ve read the trilogy), and “gray” is the color of this fabulous skirt I’m wearing.  I guess the spelling of both words can be interchangeable in this case, especially with these spiked heels (and may I note that the color of my polish is Dominatrix).  I think Christian Grey would approve, don’t you?

Weekend in Pictures: The Best Day Ever!

For Mother’s Day last weekend, we celebrated first at home with a simple lunch with my sister, her husband and my niece, myself, my husband, my son and our mom.  I then treated my niece to a spa day while my hubby took our son out for a game of mini-golf.  After I treated Mei-Lin and myself to a mani-pedi, we shopped for two pretty rings because she gave me such a beautiful set of stackable ones.  My sister said she picked them out herself (Mei-Lin already has great taste)!  We then had Tutti Frutti yogurt to end our day of relaxation.  Meanwhile, my husband called us and proudly proclaimed Dominic shot his first hole-in-one on #12!  As Mei-Lin said, that was the best day ever.  Hope you had a great weekend!

What's In a Name – The Honeyroom

My father bought my sister and I gold necklaces and bracelets personalized with our names back when we were five and eight years old (respectively), so I feel that I was on the “Carrie” necklace trend long before it started with “Sex and the City”.  We both have since lost or misplaced those precious pieces, so I’ve been trying to find a retail or online store that will sell them at a reasonable price.

I discovered a new follower on Twitter called  The Honeyroom a couple of months ago and checked out their site, which is a fashion accessory online store. Their products are inspired by celebrity, runway, vintage and retro trends in fashion.  After looking through their vast collection of sunglasses, scarves, hats, and handbags, my interest was drawn to their jewelry because of their “Nameplate Necklaces” section.  With an awesome discount I received when I followed them back on Twitter, I bought myself and two of my girlfriends personalized nameplate necklaces (we are very much SATC fans, but I got the necklaces in silver rather than gold).  In addition to the personalized “Carrie” style necklace, they have a variety of nameplate necklaces to order from, including your Twitter username (mine below is in black).

I know there are many great choices out there for nameplate necklaces.  But if you’re on a budget like me, I think the prices of the one’s found on The Honeyroom are fantastic.  The package arrived fairly quickly (within 2.5 weeks), and I was very happy with the quality of the necklaces.  Additionally, the folks who run the site are very responsive if you have any questions (thank you Andrea!).  If you follow The Honeyroom on Twitter or Facebook, you could get additional discounts, like the 20% off I received from signing up with Twitter, and they also have an affiliate program (see my side bar).  Get to know The Honeyroom and happy shopping!

(Note:  This is simply a review of the site, conducted solely at my discretion.  I did not receive any compensation, product or discounts when I ordered the product from this site.)

Rebecca Minkoff West Coast Sample Sale!

If you are a fan of Rebecca Minkoff like I am, the West Coast sample sale will be in full force in both LA and San Francisco this coming weekend.  I won’t be able to go this time due to family obligations, but I will be there in spirit with all my fellow Minkettes.  Have fun and happy shopping!

All I Ever Wanted: Dior's "Secret Garden – Versailles"

I absolutely love it when my worlds collide in such a fabulous way.  I subscribe to email updates from many fashion lines, and one of them is Dior.  I hope to one day own a Lady Dior purse of my own, and seeing this clip just makes me want one even more: Beautiful models Daria Strokous, Melissa Stasiuk and Xiao Wen Ju sashay among equally stunning interior and exterior shots set to none other than Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence”.  Click here or on the picture to view the video. Veuillez apprécier la vidéo, merci!

(Note: Apparently there is also a new Depeche Mode album due in November 2012 and tour in the works for 2013, according to David Gahan here.  Hopefully all goes well and they come back to San Diego!)

Swearing

My first Wendy Brandes purchase was the asterisk ring (seen here first), which I wear practically everyday because it is quite adorable.  I finally bought the rings that I have had my eye on since I was introduced to Wendy’s blog and jewelry line: the WendyB swear rings.  I first saw them on B at Beautifully Invisible and fell in love.  This set of rings are show stoppers and conversation pieces.  After I posted a picture of them on Instagram, I went to a family party and those who follow my blog grabbed my hand when I arrived, just to see them in person.

As with the asterisk ring, the quality is amazing, and they are so much lighter than they appear.  I was asked previously if the set was a “bar ring”.  These rings are not attached and can be worn individually.  Click here for for the set I bought in silver, or click here for the gold-plated version.  Both styles are adjustable, so one size will fit most hands.  Although you may find other versions of her designs out there (see her post on the subject here), you will not find anything like size and quality of Wendy’s originals.  I swear!

(Edited on May 14, 2012 to add the picture above, after a manicure.  On Mother’s Day, I finished the last book of the Fifty Shades trilogy and my nail color for my mani-pedi was called Dominiatrix.  I just had to wear the rings!)

Spike It

Other than the music, something that I have carried through from the 80’s are the appearance of spikes in my wardrobe in the form of a bracelet or belt.  My choice of metal is usually the pyramid spike, but I’m leaning towards the cone-shaped spike more and more these days.  I then discovered these ever so sexy open-toe “Lorissa” pumps from Sam Edelman, which are sprinkled with cone-shaped spikes and bejeweled with gems.  Since yesterday was my birthday, I bought a pair at Bloomingdale’s as a present to myself (black is no longer available, but Endless still has them here).  Our son was a bit concerned that my new shoes may hurt, but I assured him that they were only for decorative purposes and will not hurt anyone.  My niece wasn’t afraid at all and walked around the house for a good 15 minutes.  I think I know who’s going to be raiding my closet in the next few years!

Weekend in Pictures: Future Artist, Current Fashionista

Last weekend, we attended the 11th birthday party for Layla, one of my little cousins.  Although I didn’t capture any party pictures (I left that to Layla’s mom and dad), I did capture this fantastic cake.  The icing photo on the cake is Layla’s own drawing of one of her favorite characters from the Japanese anime series called “Naruto”.  Not only is Layla beautiful, a talented singer and artist, but she also shares her mother’s fashion sense (my cousin Janis has always dressed her well).  While the free-hand drawing itself is amazing, what I love is that Layla has incorporated her fondness for fashion in her signature.  I think she’s a Juicy girl for life.  Hope you had a great weekend!

May The 4th Be With You

Before the day ends, I thought I would dedicate a quick post to all of my geek friends.

Happy Star Wars Day!
