Old Print, New Tricks

I’ve worn this shirt before during my “40 for 40” remix.  This is also the outfit I wore when I went to dinner with the girls for Restaurant Week.  I paired the shirt with new pants that I almost didn’t pick up because of the odd color: dark green.  It’s not even a deep emerald or forest green.  But I liked that they are not black, which would force me to create new combinations.  It’s also a great color for fall.

It’s been a busy concert month already!  Not only did I get to see Erasure last week, but on Sunday, my sister and I saw OMD again but at Humphrey’s by the Bay.  Last night, I saw Howard Jones in concert at 4th & B , which was another fun night with Janice (and we met up with my friend, Merrick).  I’ll be sure to include pictures of what I wore along with pictures of the show for an upcoming concert review.  Hooray for more 80’s concerts!

Dee Lite Before the Dark

Cheap prices on hot titles like these every day.

I took these pictures just before a huge blackout hit all of San Diego that supposedly originated in Arizona and stretched all the way to Orange County.  My husband and I were at a company sponsored fundraiser at the Acapulco Mexican Restaurant & Cantina in beautiful Old Town San Diego, when the waiters came out to us and said that their power went out.  We then realized that the power was out everywhere after my mom called us.

Part of the reason I originally wanted to take pictures there was because one of my co-workers said that I reminded him Dee Lite from the “Groove is in the Heart” video in this dress.  I love all of the outfits in the video, in all of her psychedelic 60’s glory!

A Different Shade of Green

My neighbor did a good and bad thing:  she finally trimmed her overflowing plants and trees, but it changed my easy access outfit photo backdrop!  I had to move to the other side, which is more in our driveway.  There were still workers doing things in her yard, so I didn’t want to shoot any pictures while they were cleaning up.  Once they finish the work, I think I can still take photos there, but those pretty flowers won’t be a part of the shot any longer.  One thing I can guarantee is that Dominic will definitely be a part of my outfit posts, which isn’t so bad, is it?

See You

I’m wearing my new specs.  I know you can’t really see them all that well, so I’ll make sure to take a better close up of them in future posts.  In the meantime, I’m also wearing one of my new favorite kimono style sheer jackets.  It’s perfect for these summer days that go between semi-hot and nearly scorching (relatively speaking of course).

No Pressure: Behind the Scenes of Rebecca Minkoff’s Fall 2011 Runway Show

As you have read on my blog and have seen in many outfit posts, I am a big fan of Rebecca Minkoff.  Because her fall line is now available the web, I received an email with this video of Rebecca as she prepared for her first runway show at Lincoln Center.  I’m truly jealous of all of you who get to enjoy any of the NYC Fashion Week activities.  Have fun and enjoy this video while I check out her fall line (seen here)!

Stars & Stripes

I am trying very hard to embrace mixology through pattern mixing.  Sometimes I succeed, sometimes it’s a bit of a mess.  But after a couple of nice pointers from Kimi’s awesome post on her blog All The Fuss called “Power Clashing: I Do it Because I Can“, I thought I would try again.  I kept my patterns simple and in the same color family, as well as the accessories.

Below is my newest eBay acquisition.  I have been looking for my size in these very cute Poetic License shoe boots for a long time, and finally found them on eBay.  Although they are all black, there is subtle scallop detailing that make them beyond adorable.  The material is stretchy which makes them incredibly comfy for the height.  Most of all, they’re just so pretty!

Boys & Girls

We had a business casual day in the middle of the week, so I donned a menswear look in honor of a post from Ambu’s blog called “Non-Conforming Androgyny“.  In it, she wore a very sharp fitted suit and tie.  The post is a wonderful piece on her interpretation of non-conformity through androgyny, and how it forges individuality and forces people to think outside of the box.

As an 80’s enthusiast, Annie Lennox, Boy George, David Bowie, Grace Jones and The Human League all immediately come to mind when I think of androgyny.  From women in power suits to men in make-up, I was incredibly influenced by the androgynous look and loved to mix up menswear in my everyday look as evidenced by the picture below (circa 1989).

Sheer & Shorts

It’s unmistakably summer here in San Diego. I wore this running around with my son, going first to the mall then to a birthday party at the park.  It was perfect because it was light, cool and I didn’t have to fuss with it at all.  Dominic and I also jumped around in one of those “bounce houses”.  The elastic at the bottom of the shirt definitely kept my shirt from going places it shouldn’t!

Spotted at the Office

I wear so many different things to work because I like to keep things fresh and fun for myself and I’m really loving this kind of full skirt more and more.  I saw this on the Bloomingdale’s website and I had to pick it up because of the leopard spot print, and discovered how wonderfully lightweight it is.  For the summer, I think I will buy a few more of these types of skirts because I think they will transition nicely into the fall by adding tights with ankle or tall boots.

So Fresh

I had taken pictures of another outfit earlier this week, but I just couldn’t figure out why they all seemed a bit off.  I realized that I wasn’t looking or feeling confident, no matter what I did.  There is something about a new haircut.  It makes outfits feel more complete.  It makes you walk with confidence.  It just makes you feel good all over.
