And The Tape Is Your Voice

DSC01230 (2) (853x1280)

I think it was love at first sight when I saw this skirt on ModCloth.  It’s called the “Music In Me in Mix Tape” skirt, and I literally said, “I must have that!”  I fell in love with the pattern, and the fact that is has pockets (skirts and dresses with pockets are the best things ever).  I’m glad I bought it when I did because not only was it on sale, it’s now sold out.  Hopefully ModCloth will bring it back somehow because it has quickly become my favorite skirt in my wardrobe, and I know so many would love this skirt.  When I wore it to work, one of my co-workers said, “You definitely should have been born in a different era!”  I admit I styled the skirt for this outfit to be retro, but I can also see this skirt in a more edgier outfit.  But maybe he was talking about the fact that the pattern is cassette tapes, and everyone knows how much I love the 80’s.

In Chains

DSC01215 (2) (856x1280)

In addition to spikes and studs, I’m very partial to metallics and chains.  I make sure to include plenty of hardware in my outfits, no matter how dressy or casual.  My husband saw me attaching all of my accessories one morning when we were going out for a family breakfast.  He just shook his head and said, “We’re just going out to eat…do you really need all of that on?”  Honey, surely you know me by now, right?

The Wind in My Hair, Makes Me So Aware

????????

I’m always reluctant to wear shorts because I don’t know where the cut off is between too short, and not short enough.  In my forties, I’ve become more self-conscious and aware of this fact, despite how much I know I believe it shouldn’t matter.  I know I wore cut-offs at the Rewind Festival last year (post here), but can I wear those anywhere else other than maybe the beach?  I think I have finally found the a line of shorts that are just perfect for me.  These shorts are by Joe Fresh at JCPenney, and they hit me at just the right place on my thigh where I feel comfortable (not to mention they are adorable).  They have a whole line of shorts, which will be perfect for those hot summer days that I know are coming so very soon here in San Diego.

Made Well

DSC00765 (2) (853x1280)

I’m not sure how it happened, but I have accumulated quite a collection of printed pants in the last few months.  I like what the printed pants add to my wardrobe, making it very dynamic.  It’s always easy to pair printed shirts with jeans or dress pants, but I find it more challenging to build an outfit around printed pants.  These wonderful printed pants are my first purchase from Madewell.  I also don’t really pick a color theme for my outfits, but I ran with the blue in this one (you may recognize the blue purse, as I wore it during my many days and nights out in London last year, orignal post here).  Believe it or not, the blues were not all the same shade, but they appear that way in these pictures.

Warm Leatherette

The weather is starting to cool off, but I can still get away with wearing some sleeveless clothing now, that I know I can layer later.  I love these studded boots, and have been figuring out ways to always incorporate them into my wardrobe.  When I got this soft furry vest from Bloomingdale’s, I couldn’t wait to pair them up with these boots.  The cool colors and softness of the vest together with the leather and studs of the boots make me feel like a rock star (Warm Leatherette by The Normal was playing in my head while posing for these shots).

Outfit – Aqua faux fur vest; H&M Jeans; Steve Madden “Fraankie” boots; Rebecca Minkoff purse; Michael Kors watch; Coach sunnies; Personalized leather cuff from the San Diego County Fair; Unknown brand studded silver bracelet; Wendy Brandes ring; Cross necklace from Southwark Cathedral in London

Tailored Textures

It’s finally starting to cool down, so I’m feeling like wearing textured clothing and layering them in different ways.  These pieces are not new, but I’ve never worn them together so it feels like a new outfit.  The jacket is a colored tweed or boucle and the pants are corduroy.  I kept the layering simple, but all in the same muted shades.  I’m also starting to embrace wearing different shades of the same color.  I was always hesitant to do so, but I think that it makes an outfit more dynamic and now actually expands my wardrobe possibilities!

Outfit – din bin jacket (from Nordstrom a long time ago); LEI corduroy pants; Old Navy blouse; Wet Seal tank; Poetic License shoes; Rebecca Minkoff MAC purse; Michael Kors watch; iSee glasses from GlassesUSA; Vintage brooches; Tiffany & Co necklace; Wendy Brandes ring

Angry Birds?

The title of this post is simply because my son is playing the game on both my Acer Iconia and my iPhone, and I was running out of titles for posts using the word “bird”.  This dress is so flowy & cute, but is so low-cut that I had to wear a little bandeau underneath.  Besides, I think the attention should be on the cut and print of the dress and these fabulous shoes, rather than my need for modesty, don’t you?

Outfit: Angie dress (from Lulus); Kenneth Cole straw purse (old); Matiko “Paris” shoes (from Ashbury Skies); Juicy Couture ring; Michael Kors watch; Coach sunnies; Nameplate necklace (from The Honeyroom)

Golden Lights

I took advantage of the lack of foot traffic by my house to take these photos.  The light had this lovely golden hue that you just can’t recreate with photo enhancements or even a flash.  It made even my silver ring look golden.  I took my Matiko shoes for another stroll because they just deserve to be out and about whenever and wherever I can wear them.

Outfit – Zara sweater; H&M jeans; Rebecca Minkoff purse & wrap bracelet; Matiko shoes; Michael Kors watch; Dominique Cohen for Target necklace; Wendy Brandes ring; iSee glasses ℅ GlassesUSA

Mismatched

See our great wines and small batch bourbon selection.

I thought I was being clever: I wanted to enhance the houndstooth pattern buried in the plaid of the jacket by wearing a similar, but larger pattern on my tights. It worked in the subtle light of my room, but I’m not sure how I feel about it in the light of day. I think I’ll be sure to wear the pieces separately the next time, letting each pattern stand on it’s own. But I do love my new boots. I’ve worn them many times since I bought them. The wedged heel makes them comfy enough to wear anywhere, even concerts (seen here).

Despite my wardrobe missteps, my niece and son still love me and would be in every outfit shot if they could. My niece even said, “I always like it when you wear dresses, Auntie!”

Outfit – Bizz jacket (Forever 21); C. Graffiti tunic; Rampage boots; Target tights; bebe crown brooch; Vintage cameo; gifted necklace (from my cousin Regi); Rebecca Minkoff MAC purse; Michael Kors watch; Coach sunnies

A Different Shade of Green

My neighbor did a good and bad thing:  she finally trimmed her overflowing plants and trees, but it changed my easy access outfit photo backdrop!  I had to move to the other side, which is more in our driveway.  There were still workers doing things in her yard, so I didn’t want to shoot any pictures while they were cleaning up.  Once they finish the work, I think I can still take photos there, but those pretty flowers won’t be a part of the shot any longer.  One thing I can guarantee is that Dominic will definitely be a part of my outfit posts, which isn’t so bad, is it?

Outfit – Ana sweater (JC Penney); Guess jeans; Forever 21 tank; Qupid shoes; Rebecca Minkoff purse; Coach sunglasses; Michael Kors watch; Juicy Couture & Wendy Brandes rings; Tiffany & Co necklace
