Summer's End, Fall Into Autumn

It’s so hard to think of fall when the weather is still incredibly warm here in San Diego, but I think I’ve got the infusion of shoes that I need to end my summer and begin the cooler fall weather.  It began with the Topshop studded flats that I bought while I was in London, but I also bought a couple of pairs of shoes from Labor Day sales.  I’m also trying to embrace flats, lower heels and lower wedged heels as part of my fall office wardrobe, so you’ll see a bit of a trend with my most recent acquisitions.  I again included prices because I think anyone can really get a good deal if you sign up for special mailing lists, or get the shoes you want at a better price if you time your purchase with a good sale.

Matiko “Monaco” in nude from Ashbury Skies (On sale for $59 from $179.95. Received email for $20 off during Labor Day. Final price with free shipping: $29!)

Ego and Greed “Bowler” in grey printed python from Solestruck.  I LOVE the Shoe Addict bandage that came in my package. (On sale for $59.95 from $119.95. Received notification for exclusive Facebook discount. Final price with free shipping: $35.97!)

VECTRA4 Canvas Studded Slippers from Topshop (£28 when I purchased them in London, which converted to $45.)

Bamboo “Alive 04” penny loafers in navy blue from Lulu*s ($25)

Steve Madden “Frankie” studded engineer booties from Macy’s (Originally $149, but I got them for $130 with free shipping because of a discount during a Labor Day sale.)

Dots & Sparkles

I know I mentioned that I would do some outfit posts while abroad, but alas, that never came to be.  We were just too busy having fun, running around eating, taking in the sights and sounds for me to be worried about what I wore out there.  I mainly just wore tank tops, jeans and flats, which wasn’t exciting enough to put in an outfit post.  I did do a tiny bit of shopping while out there, and these pants were a part of that spree.  All the polka-dot pants I have found before were more of the mini-dot kind, where the dots looked sprinkled about.  I like that these dots were a larger pattern, and that they were not denim.  The bracelets I’m wearing are also a new addition to my growing jewelry collection and are by Cutey, a company out of the UK, from their Shamballa collection.  They really complimented the dots and added a bit of shine to my outfit.  I’ve worn them quite a bit since I received them and because they sparkle, they can be worn dressed up or down.

(Next week, I’ll be posting about our tea at Harrods, our walk towards Tower Bridge, and the Rewind Concert at Henley-on-Thames, cheers!)

Outfit – Old Navy shirt; Topshop pants; Bamboo shoes; Recbecca Minkoff purse; Bon Look “Honeybadger” glasses; Michael Kors watch; Wendy Brandes ring; Shamballa bracelets c/o Cutey

FTC Disclosure:  I received free product and was asked to review the product in return.  Although I did receive free product, the opinions in this post are strictly my own.

Vacation Ready!

As this posts, Janice and I will be on our way to London and Paris for the next week.  As a send off, I’m posting an outfit that I consider very resort and vacation ready.  This sheer shirt and flowy palazzo pants make me feel like traveling.  I’m still deciding whether or not to bring these pants as they require that I wear heels, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to pull off heels with all of the walking I know we’ll be doing.  I’ll put up posts about our trip when I return, but I will still schedule posts while I’m away.  In the meantime, you can follow me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to see my most current adventures while abroad (I think my husband and son can also keep tabs on me that way, too).  Cheers and see you when I get back!

Outfit –  ECI pants; Cotton On shirt; American Apparel clutch; Matiko “Paris” wedges; Ring from The Shangri-La; Michael Kors watch; Tiffany & Co necklace; Coach sunnies; Beaded bracelets were gifts from friends

Show Me Your Luscious Apparatus: My Recoil Contest Entry

Last week on Facebook, the Shunt staff of Alan Wilder’s group Recoil announced a contest called “Show Me Yours” (I added Luscious Apparatus, which is a Recoil song), to celebrate the arrival of the DVD “A Strange Hour in Budapest” (abbreviated as ASH here).  Fans were encouraged to show off their DVDs and any other products they bought having to do with ASH (post here).  I created two entries:  the first entry was a collage that I submitted through Instagram (the second picture seen above).  I then submitted another entry, which actually turned into an outfit post, featuring my rock t-shirt of the week.

The shirt peaking out from underneath the jacket is my Recoil shirt from the concert where I met Alan Wilder (post here).  That shirt will always remind me of what a wonderful experience it was to meet Alan and see his live show presentation with Paul Kendall.  I also played with the photo editing capabilities of my Acer Iconia tablet, which rendered some cool effects.  By the way, there will be five winners, and each will receive a photo from the concert, signed by Alan.  I have many items signed by him, but knowing that Alan Wilder himself will be picking the winner was the driving decision behind entering the conest.  I’ll be sure to post if I win!

Outfit – Forever 21 faux leather studded biker jacket; Recoil t-shirt; H&M skirt; Sam Edelman “Lorissa” pumps; Wendy Brandes rings; Coach sunnies

Rock T-Shirt of the Week: Erasure Tomorrow's World

Here is my first outfit of my feature “Rock T-Shirt of the Week”, which my husband snapped of me while we were on our mini-vacation in last week.  Our hotel was situated in Old Town Irvine, and it was nice to do an outfit post in a different location.  Originally, I had thought about bringing more than one outfit just to shoot around town, but that was not the point of the vacation (our son definitely did not want to wait around while mommy posed in random stairwells).  This just made me all the more excited to take pictures in new places during my London and Paris trip next month with Janice!

Speaking of Janice, this is the t-shirt I bought at the Erasure show she took me to as a surprise Christmas present last year (post here).  This was the third time I had seen Erasure in concert:  the first was when they opened up for Duran Duran and the second was during their tour supporting The Innocents album (both shows were in the 80’s).  I’m usually one to stick to black t-shirts, so this one was a nice departure as it’s grey with bright colors.  I dressed it up a bit with a long stretchy skirt, girly heels and a bright little purse.

Outfit – Erasure t-shirt; H&M skirt; Cotton On sweater; Poetic License shoes; Mini MAC c/o Rebecca Minkoff; Coach sunnies; Wendy Brandes rings

Rock T-Shirt of the Week: A New Feature

After seeing Squeeze in concert a couple of weeks ago (review to come), I realized that I have amassed quite a collection of rock t-shirts.  I love to wear them with everything, casual and semi-dressy.  As a weekly feature (until I feature all of them), I will create an outfit post around the shirt of choice for the week, and the story behind the shirt, along with the concert ticket (if I still have it).  I think this will give me good inspiration for outfits and I can carry this on into my trip to London next month.

Wedged In

Wendy Brandes recently did a “casting call” for bloggers who own wedged sneakers (post here).  I sent her a couple of shots of just my Marc Jacobs wedged espadrille heeled sneakers, but I know she wanted a head-to-toe shot (hopefully she was able to use them).  I love these shoes so much because the heels are just high enough to be comfortable.  Believe it or not, they are show stoppers and I get asked about them every time I wear them.  They are a couple of years old, so I’m not sure if you can get these anywhere (I bought them off of eBay).

Below are a couple of detail shots of my awesome black leather MAC with gunmetal hardware (and a bright blue zipper) and a close up of my shoes from a previous post.

Outfit – Cotton On blazer; Alexander McQueen for Target t-shirt; Guess jeans; Marc Jacobs shoes; Rebecca Minkoff MAC & wrap bracelet; Wendy Brandes swear rings (seen here); Michael Kors watch; Coach sunnies; St. Christopher necklace from The Vatican

Note:  I recently found a pair of wedged sneaks on sale at Urban Outfitters by Ash (AND they are studded).  These are what I’m going to wear for most of my trip to Europe, and if they are comfy enough, I’m wearing them to the Rewind Festival.  Check them out below!

Blue Baby Doll

I know the dress isn’t blue, but title of this post is for my shoes.  These are the cute little pumps that I posted about here.  I intended to wear this outfit to my god-daughter’s 18th birthday party a couple of weeks ago.  But because my mom had a reaction to her antibiotic, we ended up in the hospital most of the day and into the evening of the debut.*  I may bring this little outfit along to London for a night out, which is funny because I put this outfit on for the picture, then took it off to spend a quiet night at home.

Outfit – Forever 21 dress (old); Betsey Johnson shoes from DSW; Rebecca Minkoff MAC purse; Wendy Brandes rings; Michael Kors watch; iSee glasses from GlassesUSA

*(Edited to add that my mom is totally fine.  She was given medication for an infection she didn’t have, so she was taken off the medication and is fully recovered.)

Angry Birds?

The title of this post is simply because my son is playing the game on both my Acer Iconia and my iPhone, and I was running out of titles for posts using the word “bird”.  This dress is so flowy & cute, but is so low-cut that I had to wear a little bandeau underneath.  Besides, I think the attention should be on the cut and print of the dress and these fabulous shoes, rather than my need for modesty, don’t you?

Outfit: Angie dress (from Lulus); Kenneth Cole straw purse (old); Matiko “Paris” shoes (from Ashbury Skies); Juicy Couture ring; Michael Kors watch; Coach sunnies; Nameplate necklace (from The Honeyroom)

This is a Modern World

I found this fantastic jacket in Anthropologie a few weeks ago as I used my annual birthday discount through their Anthro program (details here).  It’s by Leifsdottir and I immediately fell in love with it when I saw it (still available here).  Then I saw the massive discount and with my additional 15% off, this jacket became a steal.  Originally, I tried it on with jeans, a t-shirt and flats and it completely elevated my casual outfit.  After I bought it, I wore it to work to complement this 60’s inspired shift dress and boots.  It made me feel like hopping on a Vespa while listening to The Jam (hence the post title, video of the song included below).

Outfit – Alyn Paige dress; Vince Camuto boots; Leifsdottir jacket from Anthropologie (originally $498, down to $129, ended up only $110 with my discount); Coach sunnies; Stacked rings were a gift from my niece

Note: This jacket is quite roomy. I bought a size 6 (which I should never be able to fit in!), so be aware when buying it online.  Also, above is a picture showing the stripe down the sleeves, which cannot be seen in Anthropologie’s online pictures.
