Neiman Marcus Fall Trends 2014 Brunch

NM Fall Trends 2014 Brunch

NM Fall Trends Collage 1

A couple of weeks ago, bloggers were invited to a return brunch to preview Neiman Marcus’ Fall Trends for 2014 (I attended last year’s event, post here).  Styled once again by Alex Yanez, we were treated to a wonderful selection of outfits sure to inspire fashionistas everywhere.  A nice surprise for this show was the inclusion of menswear.  Rather than a narrative, I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves, which will feature my favorites.  Thank you again Neiman Marcus for another fantastic preview event!

Weezer: Dominic's First Concert!

IMG_2912 (2) (1280x1280)

This past weekend, we took Dominic to his very first concert:  Weezer at the Del Mar Racetrack!  It was a bit gloomy, raining on and off throughout the day.  We even considered not going at one point, thinking the reports of “thunder showers” would be correct and we didn’t want to subject our boy to the potential of catching a cold.  But we decided to brave the weather since we would be inside for a bit watching a few horse races prior to the concert.  Anyone who arrives prior to the last race can see the concert for free, and I have to thank my co-worker, Rene, for giving us passes for free stretch runs!  We had dinner first, then my hubby wanted to place his first bets on horses. There was three races left for the night, and Deon won the first two!  He had a blast and wants to return again this season.  After the last race, we all headed for the venue area and rocked the night away to Weezer.

The music lover in me has always wanted to see Weezer in concert.  When we found out about the show, I just thought how awesome it would be to have this be Dominic’s first concert, and he could say “When I was five, my parents took me to see Weezer!”  They performed all of the popular alternative radio station hits:  “Hash Pipe”, “Island in the Sun”, “Beverly Hills”, “Say it Ain’t So”, “Buddy Holly” and my favorite, “Undone – The Sweater Song”.  They even did a Blur cover, which was a pleasant surprise.  To commemorate the day, I bought us all concert shirts.  Dominic’s is still a bit too big, but it will allow him the chance to grow into it, giving him more chances to wear it.

Below, I’ve included the set list for the show, and I will upload the video of “Undone – The Sweater Song” soon (you’ll be able to see it underneath the set list) Dominic said he had fun, and it made for a wonderful day at the Del Mar Racetrack!

Not only was it Dominic’s first concert, but it was the first time for me and Deon to see Weezer as well.  They were fantastic!

Dominic is a natural. He took a look around at the crowd and emulated the Weezer hand symbol (his daddy decided to follow suit).

Note:  I got Deon’s shirt in London two years ago, and boy did it get a lot of attention that night!  If you can’t tell, it says “If found please return to the pub.”  When Janice and I were in London back in 2012, I saw a guy wearing it as we were going up an escalator in a Tube station.  I then found it at a souvenier shop towards the end of our stay and had to get it for Deon.  He loves it!

Weekend in Pictures: Anniversary Get Away To Palm Springs

IMG_2771 - Copy (1280x1280)

A couple of weekends ago, my hubby and I had a lovely little get away to Palm Springs.  The first time we went as a family was back in 2011 (post here).  This time it was to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary.  We didn’t have a set plan on what to do or where to go, other than Deon’s scheduled tee time (of course).  If you’re wondering, I slept in while he played, then hit Downtown for a little shopping.  We winged it the entire weekend and simply aimed for relaxation.  The result was one of the best little mini-breaks we have had in a long time, filled with good food, good shopping (we even found a record store), and of course alone time with the love of my life.  Could anything be better?

It’s been crazy trying to get regular posts up because of my family’s busy schedule.  For instance, Deon and I will be spending our anniversary in Palm Springs this weekend (where I’ll be shooting some outfit posts).  In the meantime, the next two posts will be music related, starting with concerts we’ve been to in the last couple of months.  Following the Boy George concert in April, my husband and I attended a Bruno Mars concert at the Hollywood Bowl in May.  Then over the 4th of July weekend, we saw Sublime with Rome as a spur of the moment date night.  Both of these recent concerts were favorites of my hubby, and most likely concerts I may have not attended on my own.  But that’s the wonderful thing about being married: you get to experience things you may not have because you want to be with the person you love.  I’m so lucky that Deon loves music as much as I do, because these were absolutely fantastic shows.  What concerts have you attended so far this year?  Let me know in the comments below!

Pharrell in concert 2014

Pharrell Williams opened up the show…with a very special guest.  He said “Would anyone like to see the Queen of Awesome?”  This confused many people in the audience, until we heard the first few words of the song.  Awesome doesn’t begin to describe the performance.  Check out the brief video below!

IMG_2397 (2) (927x1280)

One of the highlights of the evening was when Bruno Mars played a medley of songs they used to cover when he played smaller clubs and bars.  One of the songs was “Your Love” by The Outfield, one of our all time favorite songs.  These tickets and the whole weekend were already a birthday present for my hubby, so hearing that song was like the concert was personalized for him.  Then the show ended with fireworks. So perfect!

Absolutely Fabulous: The 2014 San Diego County Fair

DSC04139 (2) (1280x854)

IMG_2638 (2) (1280x959)

It’s that time of year again for The San Diego County Fair, and this year’s theme was called “The Fab Fair” featuring all things Beatles.  Of course that made me happy because it meant lots of British references, and I’m all about anything that brings me closer to the UK!  It took two days with my family and one day with a friend/co-worker to get through the San Diego Fair this year.  As it happens every year, we were able to partake in the sights, sounds, rides, games and of course the fab food.  Next year, I’m going to take my family on a Tuesday to take advantage of “Taste of the Fair”, where some food vendors offer a sample portion of one of their menu items for just $2, which is worth the price of admission itself!  I spent just $10 on food that day and was able to sample five different items.  I hope the pictures speak for themselves of what a great time we had at this year’s fair.  The San Diego County Fair is open until July 6th, 2014, which gives you just a few more days to enjoy one of San Diego’s finest traditions, including the 4th of July!

Next on the menu: Deep Fried Birthday Cake and the Spaghetti & Meatball Sandwich.  The spaghetti sandwich was quite good.  I think I was hoping the deep fried birthday cake was a cake pop dipped in batter and deep fried…hmmm, maybe a new recipe I should try out?

Check Out The "New Simon" at Fashion Valley Mall!

I’ve been posting a lot about Fashion Valley Mall, because it is one of the premier malls in the San Diego area and one of my absolute favorites.  They are a part of Simon Malls, which is a part of Simon Property Group.  Recently, Simon has revamped their look and strategy, resulting in an elevation of their brand.  Some of these changes can be seen immediately at Fashion Valley Mall, where they will be introducing new amenities to enhance the shopping experience, such as free Coat & Package Check, which will be available at Guest Services during regular shopping center hours. Fashion Valley will also offer several other unique services including complimentary personal shopping sessions, electric vehicle charging stations, soft seating areas, mobile charging stations and free Wi-Fi, all leading a more enjoyable and convenient way to shop.  I’m excited about the changes and for those of you in San Diego, the weekend is a great time to take in the “New Simon” at Fashion Valley!

Starting today, you will see a number of exciting changes at Simon.

We have a new simon.com uniting our malls, Premium Outlets and Mills centers in one easy to use, beautifully designed website. We’ve launched our first Simon national advertising campaign in industry leading magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle and GQ to name a few. All key centers will feature our new, modern, stylish look and feel with updated collateral, signage and Guest Services uniforms.  In addition, we will soon unveil a number of new, innovative digital initiatives and cutting edge event programming to support our retailers’ business and deliver the joy of discovery to our shoppers. All of this (and more) will enhance the shopping experience for millions of consumers and reinforce Simon’s position as the nation’s preeminent shopping center destination.

Stay tuned for more news over the coming months from the new world of Simon.
