DAISO Japan Grand Opening in Kearny Mesa & Deluxe Goodie Bag Giveaway!

Daiso_Orange_FaceI’m SO excited!  DAISO Japan is opening a new location in Kearny Mesa, and they have a grand opening celebration happening September 12th & 13th, starting at 10am!  If you are unfamiliar with DAISO Japan, they are a bright and cheerful retail store who’s mission is to help customers “find surprises and fun!”  Their stores are filled with lots of Japanese based items where most of the prices start at $1.50.  I’ve been to the Mira Mesa location more times than I care to count, and I can easily lose track of time because they have so many adorable yet useful items.

Foodie Fever: Fresh Catch Fish Market & Grill

DSC05734 (2) (1280x1280)

I’ve been to a few great places to eat recently, and I attended one of my first restaurant openings at the end of April.   I went to the media preview prior to the grand opening of a new restaurant in the Hillcrest area called Fresh Catch Fish Market & Grill, along with Zach, my good friend and fellow food enthusiast.

The restaurant is quaint and casual, and our choices for the day were very visible upon entering, both on the board and in the refrigerated display case next to the register.  There is such a wonderful variety of options to have your very fresh seafood served up: from tacos & burritos, to grilled in either a salad, sandwich or plated with rice and vegetables.  I opted for one of the house specialties, which was the Crab Mac n Cheese, and Zach had the Ahi Tuna in a Cajun crust and soy glaze.  The Crab Mac n Cheese was so creamy and had crab in every single bite.  The Ahi Tuna was seasoned perfectly and was absolutely tasty.  Zach and I had a great time and we each thoroughly enjoyed these amazingly fresh selections!

Simple. Femme. Boho. Edgy: Royalie Boutique Opens in Oceanside

IMG_3631 (2) (1280x1280)

Earlier this month, I attended the grand opening of ROYALIE Boutique in Oceanside (which I posted about on the San Diego Style Bloggers site here).  I originally met Alison Choi when she had a space in the Vixen Pop-Up Boutique at Flower Hill Promenade last year (original post here).  How wonderful to see her space and website evolve into her very own boutique, which is as stylish and adorable as she is!  Guests for the evening were treated to live music, craft cocktails and yummy food.  In the picture above, I had one of the special drinks made for the evening called a “Blueberry Royalie” from Melange.  Not to be left out, Dominic (who insisted on accompanying me to my “blogger thingie”) had a wonderful virgin lemonade craft creation, which he loved (his exact words were “Mama, this is YUMMY!”).  I want to thank Jordanne from Julep Marketing, and another big congratulations to Alison on the lovely boutique (which I will be patronizing in the near future).  Cheers and have a great weekend!

Absolutely Fabulous: The 2014 San Diego County Fair

DSC04139 (2) (1280x854)

IMG_2638 (2) (1280x959)

It’s that time of year again for The San Diego County Fair, and this year’s theme was called “The Fab Fair” featuring all things Beatles.  Of course that made me happy because it meant lots of British references, and I’m all about anything that brings me closer to the UK!  It took two days with my family and one day with a friend/co-worker to get through the San Diego Fair this year.  As it happens every year, we were able to partake in the sights, sounds, rides, games and of course the fab food.  Next year, I’m going to take my family on a Tuesday to take advantage of “Taste of the Fair”, where some food vendors offer a sample portion of one of their menu items for just $2, which is worth the price of admission itself!  I spent just $10 on food that day and was able to sample five different items.  I hope the pictures speak for themselves of what a great time we had at this year’s fair.  The San Diego County Fair is open until July 6th, 2014, which gives you just a few more days to enjoy one of San Diego’s finest traditions, including the 4th of July!

My first two dishes of the day: Deep Fried Cream Cheese with sweet chilli sauce and a Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese Melt.  The deep fried cream cheese was fantastic and everything I hoped it would be, but the pulled pork sandwich left much to be desired.  Oh how I wanted it to be good!

Next on the menu: Deep Fried Birthday Cake and the Spaghetti & Meatball Sandwich.  The spaghetti sandwich was quite good.  I think I was hoping the deep fried birthday cake was a cake pop dipped in batter and deep fried…hmmm, maybe a new recipe I should try out?

Weekend in Pictures: The 21st Annual Sicilian Festival

DSC04033 (2) (1280x1265)

Hope you’re had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  We had a lovely day filled with being with family, remembering my father and his service, ending with a fabulous barbecue dinner, courtesy of my hubby and his new grill.  But a couple of weekends ago, Deon, Dominic and I attended the 21st Annual San Diego Sicilian Festival in Little Italy.  It was another fantastic street fair, consisting of great food, entertainment, sites and tradition.  We almost didn’t go because we weren’t aware of it, but my mom said she saw it on the news and thought it would be a fun event to attend.  Dominic especially had fun because of the little kiddie area and bungee jump.  It’s definitely something we would like to come back to again annually, but I’ll let the rest of the pictures really tell the story of what a great time we had!

Weekend in Pictures: Out & About in Downtown San Diego

 IMG_1751 (2)

Isn’t San Diego beautiful?  I’m sure to the casual observer, it’s not hard to believe.  But for a native like me, I tend to take this gorgeous city for granted.  Every now and again, I’m reminded of it’s beauty when I take time to stroll around, like we did a couple of weekends ago.  Since my Blink Lash Boutique appointment was nestled conveniently in Little Italy (original post here), we decided to make a day of it and re-acquaint ourselves with this fantastic city.  We started with lunch at Princess Pub & Grille; then had dessert at Fabrison’s French Creperie Café; took a pedicab ride to Seaport Village and The Headquarters (I loved Kitson!); and finished with pizza slices at Landini’s Pizzeria back in Little Italy.  We found out about a Farmer’s Market while in Little Italy, and vowed to return because while it seemed like a wonderful prospect, we were not prepared to face the crowds that day.  We would have arrived much earlier than lunch to tackle a day at an open market!  All in all, it turned out to be such a wonderful day and I know my husband and I want to do more easy days like this out and about in our beloved city of San Diego.  Hope you had a great weekend!
