City Boho

I think this is as Bohemian as I get.  I bought this dress in the early stages of my pregnancy nearly three years ago.  I liked that it has an empire waist that has a bit of give.  When I was pregnant, I tried as much as possible to buy things that were not maternity clothes, so that I could wear them again.  The satchel purse and hat make me feel like I’m traveling somewhere.  But the shoes, I think they speak for themselves.

(With all that has happened in the world, I decided to take it easy with posts this week.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all who have lost.  Remember, no loss is any greater or less important than another.)

In The Navy

I’ve fallen in love with my new pair of navy blue suede Naughty Monkey boots that I bought recently on Zappos.com (seen here). It’s no surprise that I’ve worn them almost everyday since I bought them and even wore them shopping all day two Saturdays ago. The mid-heel makes them comfortable for walking and perfect for any outfit. I wore them with jeans and leggings for a few days, then decided to try them with my pretty little bird printed dress (last seen here). The navy blue color just makes them pop against anything I’ve worn, especially black.

Blue Velvet

My recent color obsession is navy blue. Since I bought that navy blue pea coat from Old Navy (seen here), I have been looking at everything ink and indigo. I can’t get enough of the almost-but-not-quite-black depth of the blue, which makes for such an incredibly subtle contrast when worn with black. I ventured so far as to buy blue boots (seen here).

My recent fabric obsessions are velvet and velour. I didn’t even realize it, but I bought four velvet or velour dresses. Velvet and velour can look incredibly cheap when done wrong. But when done right, there is a richness that can be brought out of any color, especially in jewel tones.

I went to Polyvore and made this little set, combining my current obsessions (including Polyvore itself). I own only the Juicy Couture and Mod Cloth dresses, everything else was used to create the set. Although, after seeing some of these other pieces that I picked to make this set, that may change!

Something To Do

I’ve been doing quite a bit of shopping lately, both online and at the malls. I just got this tweed moto jacket by I ‘Heart’ Ronson, British designer Charlotte Ronson’s line at JC Penney. I love it because the tweed material has a bit of sparkle to it, which can easily take it from day to night. Also, it’s a bit edgy because it’s cut like a motorcycle jacket rather than a classic cut mainly associated with a tweed fabric. I wore it with my favorite Depeche Mode t-shirt from the 1985 Some Great Tour concert. The title of this post is a song off of the album they were supporting at the time called “Some Great Reward”.

I was lucky to get these pictures in when I did. I went to the nearby Plaza Bonita mall right after I took these pictures to do a little more shopping and pick up some household things. When I was in Target, the rain started to pour. Unfortunately, I had nothing but this jacket to protect me because I forgot my umbrella. Luckily, the rain died down a bit so I managed to get to my car without getting too wet. What a way to christen my brand new jacket!

Twilight Sprinkles

Having a tripod just gives me such freedom, not only for myself but for my husband. He has been so patient with me and all the pictures I want to take. I would still love to have him help me with location shots, but for these outfits that I wear on a daily basis, I’ll just turn to my tripod. I’m still working out camera positioning and poses, so bear with me as I get the hang of it.

I took these pictures just as it started to sprinkle. I wasn’t going to use my umbrella, but I almost had no choice with the wet weather we’ve been having lately. I am wearing my “Walk the Walk” boots again. I’m having so much fun wearing them and wanted to show how versatile they are. They really do work with any outfit, and any kind of weather.

Wake Up & Smell The Couture

I have yet another confession that I need to make here and now: I love Juicy Couture. Ever since I first saw the iconic velour track suit at Fred Segal on Melrose, I’ve been hooked. When I need a soft and comfy yet put together look for weekends or travel, I throw on one of my many track suits (I have quite a few in velour, terry and fleece). I practically lived in them when I was pregnant with my son. But for me, the appeal is much more than that. The Scotty dog, the cute little charms, the Day Dreamer purses, the infamous pink and brown boxes and shopping bags, it makes me feel like Barbie at play, but all grown up. I included a picture that I took of my growing collection while I was on maternity leave. I even had socks and bibs for my son, as you can see at the bottom of the picture.

Every year, I think that I just can’t possibly buy anymore Juicy Couture, but every year I do. It’s usually during this time of year that the obsession begins and I dive in and submerge myself in all things Juicy. I just purchased this dress and ring a couple of weeks ago (both are now sold out, so I did not include links). I’ve worn the ring already in a few pictorials.

Now that Juicy Couture has teamed up with Erin Fetherston, the compulsion to drape myself in Juicy has gone up a notch. The online store just had an additional 50% off all sale items this past week, so I indulged a little more. I bought the Erin Fetherston dress (in black instead of the pictured African Sun), plus the velour dress and studded earrings pictured below. There is a Juicy Couture store close by at the Fashion Valley Mall and an outlet store at the Carlsbad Company Stores that I’d like to venture into, but I think these purchases will be my final ones for the end of the year. I know my husband will be very glad to hear that!

So Newly Charming

I got the chance to use my new tripod and was inspired by yet another Duran Duran song with my outfit. I felt my jacket was quite androgynous with the pin-stripes, so I kept it simple with a white sweater and black skinny jeans. I had the hat on, but felt better holding it to give a hint of Duran Duran’s “The Chauffeur” without going overboard (the title of this post is a line from the song).

I’m also loving the “Walk the Walk” boots that I bought from Modcloth.com (sorry kids, they went on sale and suddenly sold out!). They are quite comfortable and flattering with everything from jeans to dresses. I have worn these boots everyday since I bought them.

I always get asked where I bought this distressed white sweater. It looks like it’s been sliced or run all over like stockings, and has loose threads on the sleeves and on either side of the sweater, giving it an almost spiderweb look. Believe it or not, I bought it at an “Everything $5.99” store. We went in the store, looking for little knickknacks. I walked over to the 99 cent rack and found this sweater. The best dollar I’ve ever spent!

All Day Sparkle

I don’t know what it is about the holidays that brings out the girly-girl in me. I’m loving all the sequins and glitter, especially during an evening out. But these are some casual items that can add a touch of sparkle during the day, and some can even take you into the night.

I’m not sure what I’m going to wear them with, but I really love the Toms Pink Glitters!

Easy Like Saturday Afternoon

We decided to go out for the day with Dominic on Saturday.  After a little bit of a delay (because we were deciding where to go), we ended up at beautiful Kate Sessions Park.  I brought my new shoes and one of my favorite clutch purses because I wanted to try my outfit a little dressed up with heels for some pictures.  I wish I could wear shorts to the office, so this outfit represents how I would wear them.

After taking pictures, I kicked off the heels and threw on sandals so that my husband and I could run around with Dominic and his little soccer ball.   Although it’s almost October, the weather is still so sunny and warm enough to wear lighter fabric (although I’m anxious to start wearing coats and layers!).  It’s times like these that I love living in San Diego.

Taking care of Dominic between shots.
