Random iPhone Pictures: Listen to This

February 29 – something you’re listening to #joydivision

As stated in a previous post regarding the “Photo a Day” meme from Fat Mum Slim (March’s photo theme list seen here), I’m more inclined to post musically themed pictures, and here are a few recent ones from March.  I’ve also recently gotten into hash-tagging my pictures (all of these were marked with a hash-tag of #marchphotoaday).  It’s interesting to see just how many people are trending the groups I’m listening to, especially Joy Division.

March 5 – a smile #depechemode #seeyou

Empire State Building Blocks

I’m amazed at how artistic my son has become, coordinating colors when using his building blocks.  Dominic can sit for at least an hour when he’s really concentrating on creating something, then will tear it all down again to build anew.  At one point, he was building tower and said, “Mama, look it’s so tall!”  He loves to listen to the music on my iPhone, so I played a song called “Empire State Human” by The Human League because of the lyrics “I want to be tall, tall, tall,” like his awesome tower.  Who knew that he would take my iPhone just to keep playing the song each time he wanted to build something new?  I’m glad my son loves my 80’s music.

Coming Soon: A Strange Hour in Budapest

This was posted a couple of weeks ago on Alan Wilder’s blog:  A concert film will be released of Recoil’s “A Strange Hour in Budapest”, which was a show that came at the end of 2010 (the leg that I attended here in San Diego).   Per the blog:  “The proposed package will feature the full concert film, running at approximately 84 minutes in HD resolution and with 5.1 & stereo audio options. Also included will be some extra promo films and live projections. It has been decided to limit the format to Blu-ray only for a couple of reasons – the main being that the film works infinitely better at its highest resolution and we don’t want to compromise this aspect.”

There has been some discussion in the blog comments of choice to release it to Blu-ray, but I think it’s an excellent idea because the show was both musically and visually stunning and the best format to capture it would be Blu-ray.  Either way, I’m very excited to finally have a copy of a show from the “Selected” tour.  I’ll post when it’s available as soon as I find out!

Snap Happy

Aren’t my fuchsia platform pumps FAB?

I discovered an addicting new app through the Minkette blog called Snapette.  If you recall my post on Pose (seen here), it’s basically the same type of photo app, but truly more dedicated to accessories.  I love this app because I can be anywhere, in any store and just snap my favorite accessories, in addition to snapping some that I already have from outfit posts.  And just like Pose, I can upload my “snaps” to my favorite forms of social media (in my case, Facebook and Twitter).

The Snapette Rebecca Minkoff contest ends today (contest was March 5-March 19), so you still have a chance to download this great app and enter.  In the meantime, I wanted to share some of the snaps I uploaded of my favorite accessories (a couple ended up in their “Hot” section).  Happy snapping!

More Rebecca Minkoff, and a preview of an upcoming outfit post (can you tell how much I love RM?)

Pleased to Meet You: San Diego Bloggers Mini-Meet Up

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of meeting two local fashion bloggers at the El Camino restaurant in Little Italy (I shot the outfit post for the Idle Vice Violator dress there).  Jennifer of the blog Malcriada organized the mini-event, which initially consisted a list of seven bloggers, but ended up being Jennifer, myself and Vanessa of Fashion Mixtape.  I was glad that Jennifer suggested to meet at El Camino because I finally got the chance to try the food, which was fantastic!

Jennifer posted a roll call of San Diego fashion bloggers she discovered through the recent Refinery 29 contest (her post was called this town is our town, this town is so glamorous), so hopefully we can make this mini-meet up something of a regular event.  In meeting Vanessa and Jennifer, we discovered that we each incorporate our love of music with our love of fashion.  If we can make this a regular event, it would be great to get to know the other fashionable bloggers of our fair city to see our different styles and what else we all have in common.  Be sure to check out Jennifer and Vanessa’s blogs and have a great weekend!

Inner Circle

I’ve got a few circle scarves, including this cute green one.  It was a last-minute purchase during a recent mini-shopping spree, but I’m glad that I bought it.  It added a subtle punch of color to this black & white outfit.  I really am trying to embrace more color, so I think accessories are a great place to start.

Weekend in Pictures: Images From a Birthday Party

Excited about his new bike from Daddy (he got a matching helmet, too!)

Here are a few images from Dominic’s birthday party last month.  It was such a beautiful day at the park, which is unusual for February.  Now that he’s three, he completely understands that this was his party, to celebrate all things about him.  And when you’re that age, isn’t that all that matters?  Hope you had a great weekend!

Playing with his new InnoTab from Grandma (he calls it his iPad).  He takes it everywhere!

Random iPhone Pictures: It's Called a Heart

February 7 – Button

Here are more photos from the February “Photo a Day” challenge (original post here).  I’m enjoying this challenge because I feel it forces me to think about composition and subject, which allows me to not to be so literal.  I realize I’m always inspired by music when thinking about subjects other than myself or my family.  What inspires you?

February 11 – Makes You Happy (My husband and son saw “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace” in 3D on the day I took this photo.)

February 12 – Inside Your Closet

February 13 – Blue (“It’s Called a Heart” by Depeche Mode on blue vinyl, imported from Germany, from my personal collection.)

February 14 – Heart (I called this “Human Heart Mode”.)

February 15 – Phone (“Old School” phone from Pottery Barn, so it’s not a true rotary phone.  My niece asked “Is that the kind of phone you used in the 80’s?”)

February 16 – Something New

An Old Favorite

I bought this coat at the first H&M I ever went to at The Eaton Centre in Toronto, Canada.  This was back in 2004 when the US dollar was doing very well.   It was a tough year because my father had just passed away, so my mom went to spend the summer with my dad’s sister to be close to his family, and to have some breathing room.  I had flown to Toronto at the beginning of that summer with my mom, then flew back to bring her home because she hated to fly alone.  I stayed there for a week before coming back to San Diego, so we went on a few little trips while I was out there.  During one of our day trips, we went to a resort casino called Fallsview, which was called so because of the spectacular view of Niagra Falls.  I went tooling around Niagra while my mom and aunts played the slots.  Thirty minutes before the bus arrived to take us back to Toronto, my mom came out of the casino and whispered to me that she won $1500 Canadian!  She gave me $500 of it to go on a shopping spree at H&M.  Isn’t amazing how many memories a simple coat can evoke?  Now you know why it’s one of my favorites.
