Wanted: Les Petits Joueurs Bags & Accessories

Alex Black Widow

I’ve been a lover of Lego since my childhood.  My mother-in-law has been collecting Lego sets for our son since he was born.  Now that Dominic is five, his love for Lego has grown exponentially, especially since The Lego Movie has been out (we’ve seen it twice, and we are planning a trip to LEGOLAND in the near future).  Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Lego would become a fashionable part of my life, until now.  I follow eclectic fashion blogger, Georgiana Boboc, (of Vintage Traffic) on Instagram, and she posted an amazing purse:  a shoulder bag with the word “Love” emblazoned in Lego!  Designed by Maria Sole Cecchi, the Les Petits Joueurs collection (translation Little Player) is completely fun and I am coveting everything they have (especially the Janis Piano clutch in glitter calf leather and the Alex Mondrian).  Someday, I hope to add a purse or two from this creative collection to my own!

"Kendra's Vegas Night Out" Style Challenge: Queen of Spades

Queen of Spades

I’m always up for a good challenge, especially when it tests my fashion chops.  Imagine my excitement when I was asked by travel expert Kendra Thornton to participate in a style challenge to provide a look for her upcoming trip to Las Vegas!  She has asked that we assemble our looks for her, with our own personal style and creativity.  I’ve included her plans for the evening below to show where my inspiration came from for her night on the town in Las Vegas.

Kendra wanted a look that could go from a lovely dinner and show, to a night dancing at the Moon Nightclub at the Palms.  I picked the Aster dress by Erin Fetherston because it’s short, sassy and has swing for dancing, but still looks quite sophisticated and dressy.  The navy color of the dress pairs well with the black accessories for an overall chic look.  I love purses and shoes that stand out, so I adore the details of the story book clutch and bow accented shoes.  I titled my style board “Queen of Spades” partly due to the obvious Vegas theme, but also because all of my accessory choices are from Kate Spade.  That scalloped pave ring looks like a little crown, no?

I hope Kendra likes my style board, and I hope she has a fabulous time in Las Vegas!

Kendra’s Vegas-themed Fashion Challenge

In a few weeks, I’ll be heading to the Palms Casino and Resort in Vegas for a weekend getaway with a group of friends. But as a mother of three, I’m in need of some fashion advice! Too much of my current clothing screams “busy mom.” That’s where you come in! I’m looking for help putting together outfit ideas that will complement my weekend full of activities. I want to look stylish, a little flirty, but still age-appropriate. Your challenge is to help me come of with a wardrobe I can wear for my getaway in Vegas.

While I’m at the Palms Casino & Resort, I’ll definitely be hitting up Moon Nightclub — one of Vegas’ hottest dance parties. The club is a giant spectacle of lights and music, where some of the best-known Vegas celebrities come to see and be seen. I’ll be certain to spend some time of the dance floor, but I might also relax at a private booth with a group of my friends. It will be a chance to debut my best dance moves, but I’ll also have the opportunity to relax and kick back with my friends if we decide that watching the party is more our scene.

The perfect outfit for my trip to Vegas will be able to reflect my plans at the Palms, and will ensure that I look my best hanging out at such a luxurious and well-known resort. It needs to be suitable for a night on the dance floor, but also be appropriate for heading out to a nice dinner or a show at one of the Strip’s luxurious hotels. Help me to look and feel my best by putting together the perfect outfit for my night of fun. Being a mom of three doesn’t mean I can’t look great and enjoy a unforgettable trip to Vegas with my friends.

There’s a saying I saw somewhere that somewhat goes “When a woman says she can’t decide what to wear, she really means she can’t decide who to be that day.”  Well, this past weekend, I decided to be everything.  I wore this while running errands with my husband and son, and I completely felt like this was a combination of dressy, yet casual and edgy.  Wearing flats with a plain white t-shirt and long skirt felt comfortable, so I put on a classic black cardigan with shiny silver accessories to bring a dressier edge.

A Love Story in Rose Gold Featuring Brilliant Earth

A Love Story in Rose Gold

In anticipation of Valentine’s Day, I was approached by fine jewelers, BrilliantEarth.com, to participate in their Personality Style Challenge.  I chose to style the rose gold and diamond pieces as they have always been a favorite of mine (see a previous post here).  I found an adorable dress on ModCloth with “fluttering hearts” in an organza overlay, but kept the shoes and purse fairly simple so that the jewelry could shine (although, that Aldo purse is pretty fantastic).

Brilliant Earth is a wonderful socially conscious company, who also supports sustainability.  Founded in 2005 by Beth Gerstein and Eric Grossberg, Brilliant Earth is “devoted to cultivating a more ethical, transparent, and sustainable jewelry industry.”  What this means is that they are dedicated to go above and beyond the current industry standards to ensure their diamonds originate from pure and ethical sources.  They apply the same high standards to their colored gemstones, carefully tracking them to ensure they meet their standards of social and environmental responsibility.

Additionally, Brilliant Earth handcrafts all of their fine jewelry from recycled precious metals.  On their site, they explain “dirty gold mining” which has a grim history.  Their objective is to “diminish the negative impacts of dirty gold” by affecting the demand of newly mined precious metals.

Lastly, Brilliant Earth gives back by donating 5% of their profits to help communities who are affected by the jewelry industry.  They promote growth and support initiatives designed to improve livelihoods and protect the environment.

Thank you Brilliant Earth for this lovely opportunity!

These pictures were taken last November in Las Vegas outside of the famous Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino, at the Fremont Street Experience.  Believe it or not, although my husband was born and raised in Las Vegas, this was the first time he had ever been to the Fremont Street Experience (more pictures to come).  We were able to snap some pictures of my comfy yet pulled together outfit, amidst all of the craziness of the evening.  I’ve always wanted a simple red coat, and I was so excited to have the opportunity to own this one, courtesy of J.Jill from their grand opening at Fashion Valley (post here).

This is the News: Sammy Dress for Less

DSC03461 (2) (852x1280)

You know when you get wind of a great deal and you just want to share it with everyone?  That’s how I feel about the global online fashion retail company, Sammy Dress.  When they contacted me to check out their site, I was not only excited about their selection (women, men AND kids clothing, accessories and shoes), but about their prices as well.  I instantly fell in love with this newspaper print handbag, and the reviews seemed pretty favorable.  When it arrived in just 3 weeks (from China), I was really pleased that it was just as adorable in person as it was on their site.  It is big enough to be a small overnight bag, and large enough for a generously sized tote.  In fact, my mom loved it so much that she now wants one for her own!  With their highest price point being under $85 (the purse pictured is only $6.85!) , I’ll definitely be spreading the news about this fabulous retail find!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: H&M Conscious

IMG_0791 (2) (1280x1280)

After being sick for a few days earlier this week, my husband finally got me out of the house for some necessity shopping.  This included a trip to the grocery store and to our local mall.  We quickly stopped in at H&M before heading to Target, where I found an adorable sweatshirt (that cute number pictured above to go with my new YRU kitty flats) and some even cuter socks (not pictured).  I carry an H&M reusable bag with me everywhere as a quick “go to” bag for any kind of emergency, fashion or otherwise.  After being rung up, I asked the sales person to please use my reusable bag to house my new purchases.  He informed me that as a thank you for doing so, I received 15% off of my sweatshirt, and he gave me another coupon to use again on another item of my choice.  What a pleasant surprise!  H&M has made quite an effort to be a more sustainable company with their “H&M Conscious” campaign (I have a jacket from this line, worn here and here).  Like the discount I received for using my reusable bag, you can also receive coupons for taking part in their “Garment Collecting” initiative by bringing your used clothing to be repurposed to be either reworn, reused, or recycled (the stores have receptacles for the Garment Collecting).  I truly enjoyed receiving such a lovely little surprise for just my own small effort to be sustainable.  If you are shopping this weekend and find yourself near an H&M, maybe you can do the same.  Cheers!

(Note:  This is not a sponsored post, and I was not approached by H&M to endorse their “H&M Conscious” campaign.  I am simply impressed by their sustainable fashion efforts, and wanted to share my experience with the readers of Any Second Now.)

The “Uniquely You” ModCloth Challenge: Office/Out

Office:Out
Recently, ModCloth invited a few bloggers to participate in their “Uniquely You” campaign on Polyvore.  We were asked to style one of their favorite dresses, the adorable Committee Celebration Dress and the winner gets to be featured on ModCloth’s Polyvore page.  I called my set “Office/Out” and I decided to style it two ways, showing the versatility of the dress.  I love ModCloth, so it was easy to choose pieces to help this lovely little number go from day to night.  I think this just gave me some ideas for a New Year’s Eve outfit!

Photographs From 7 Image Salon’s First Annual Holiday Cocktail Party & Fashion Show

 7 Image Holiday Collage 1

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to attend 7 Image Salon’s First Annual Holiday Cocktail Party and Fashion Show, with proceeds from their silent auction benefiting the Sproles Empowered Youth foundation.  The chic party featured a fashion show with apparel from La Jolla boutique Kerut and hair and makeup styled by 7 Image’s own talented team.  The event was hosted by Thomasina “Goo Goo” Atkins from WETV’s reality show, “The Mary Mary Show”.  It was quite the lovely evening, and I want to thank Alternative Strategies and 7 Image Salon for the invite.  Cheers!

Because I arrived quite early, I was able to get some shots of the beautiful interior of 7 Image Salon.
