Quick Dash

I ran some quick errands and managed to snap a picture of my outfit between going to the drugstore from the bank last week. It was our first week back to business casual, and this little dress from Mod Cloth was perfect. I love the ease of the fabric and the print for the price (believe it or not, it was $26!). I kept it very simple by pairing it with a long dark cardigan, tights and booties.

Head Over Heels

I absolutely love these “Make Your Mark” heels by Quipid Luxe from Mod Cloth (seen here and here). As with a lot of things I buy, I live in them for a few weeks, then they go right into my regular wardrobe rotation. I’m finding that they are incredibly versatile, so I’ve been wearing them with everything from jeans to trousers to skirts. I think they’re just ducky, don’t you?

Twilight Sprinkles

Having a tripod just gives me such freedom, not only for myself but for my husband. He has been so patient with me and all the pictures I want to take. I would still love to have him help me with location shots, but for these outfits that I wear on a daily basis, I’ll just turn to my tripod. I’m still working out camera positioning and poses, so bear with me as I get the hang of it.

I took these pictures just as it started to sprinkle. I wasn’t going to use my umbrella, but I almost had no choice with the wet weather we’ve been having lately. I am wearing my “Walk the Walk” boots again. I’m having so much fun wearing them and wanted to show how versatile they are. They really do work with any outfit, and any kind of weather.

So Newly Charming

I got the chance to use my new tripod and was inspired by yet another Duran Duran song with my outfit. I felt my jacket was quite androgynous with the pin-stripes, so I kept it simple with a white sweater and black skinny jeans. I had the hat on, but felt better holding it to give a hint of Duran Duran’s “The Chauffeur” without going overboard (the title of this post is a line from the song).

I’m also loving the “Walk the Walk” boots that I bought from Modcloth.com (sorry kids, they went on sale and suddenly sold out!). They are quite comfortable and flattering with everything from jeans to dresses. I have worn these boots everyday since I bought them.

I always get asked where I bought this distressed white sweater. It looks like it’s been sliced or run all over like stockings, and has loose threads on the sleeves and on either side of the sweater, giving it an almost spiderweb look. Believe it or not, I bought it at an “Everything $5.99” store. We went in the store, looking for little knickknacks. I walked over to the 99 cent rack and found this sweater. The best dollar I’ve ever spent!

Black & Velvet

Velvet during the day is something that I’ve been wearing for a while, so I’m embracing the current trend and diving in.  I bought this jacket at H&M 6 years ago in Toronto, long before we had any available in San Diego.  It’s held up so well over the years, and I’ve worn it casual as seen here, and dressed up with shiny skirts and sequined dresses.  Today, I matched with stripes, dark denim leggings, and a nice big patent leather purse.  The weather has officially cooled, so now is the time to take advantage of layering with jewel tones and lush textures.

Military Luxe

I’m very glad that I treated my new suede boots last week because we received an unexpected shower today.  You can see water the beading on the boots, which is a good thing (the rain just shook off of them when I got inside).  We only stayed out in the rain long enough to capture a few pictures of my military/utilitarian outfit today, softened with a pretty umbrella, vintage looking cameo and sparkly scarf.  If the rain persists this week, I may have to set aside my boots for when the weather is more permitting.

Tea Time

The weather out here in California has gone up several degrees this week, so my “Coat of the Week” idea didn’t quite make sense, even when most of my day is spent in an air-conditioned office.  Since I’ve been wearing these great shoes everyday from the moment I bought them (seen here and here), I thought I would make this more of a “Shoe of the Week” pictorial.

Along with my platform pumps, I wore a tea dress with my brand new ring that I got from the Thread Show (seen here) and black tights for contrast.  Pretty tea dresses are wonderful things to own because they can be dressed up or down (I like mine in polka dot, ditsy floral or Liberty prints).  Although it’s as hot as it is, I tried to ring in the fall by topping the outfit off with a cardigan.  But I’ll be drinking iced-tea instead of my favorite piping hot English Breakfast or Earl Grey with cream until the weather cools down again.

Coat of the Week: Minor Setback

As my husband and I were setting up for pictures of the first outfit for my “Coat of the Week” pictorial, we experienced a minor setback:  I broke my camera.  I was walking away from my husband while handing him the camera and didn’t realize that my hand was still in the strap.  Next thing I know…crash!  My little Canon Power Shot never stood a chance against that tough pavement.  We need to send it into the manufacturer to get it fixed.

We managed to get a picture before it completely stopped working.  Luckily for us, we have more than one working camera.  I’ll be using either a Pentax Optio 750Z or my husband’s Sony A (alpha) 350.

When at first you don’t succeed…try, try again!

Channeling Louise Brooks

Louise Brooks

Ever since I saw “Pandora’s Box” in one of my film classes at UCSD, I had a fascination with Louise Brooks.  I’ve always loved the era of the 20’s and 30’s.  I love the movie and musical “Chicago” and have seen both the movie (many times) and the musical (just once).  Everyone seemed to be dressed as if they were always going out on the town, no matter what time of day it was.

My most favorite thing about Louise Brooks was her hair style.  When I think of the “Page Boy” or “Bob” haircut, I think immediately of the sleek banged look of Louise Brooks.

I’ve been growing my hair out because I know my husband loves it when my hair is longer.  With the weather being all over the map these days and trying to chase after a toddler, I’ve found that I’m constantly opting for putting my hair up in a pony-tail rather than taking time to really work on it.   My hair is very thick and requires quite a bit of attention and time, which I really don’t have in the morning before taking off for a job that starts at 6am!

To resolve that issue, I have decided to go back to what I love best.  I’m sorry my dear husband, but the long locks just had to go.  I also think it went perfect with my outfit for FNO, don’t you think?
